Made With (Brotherly) Love: Philadelphia Mother’s Day Gift Guide
1-800 Flowers’ customer service knows you on a first name basis, IOU cards were cute when you were 5, and a “mom” tattoo on your arm (sounded good after a few PBRs) do not count as Mother’s Day Gifts. Lucky for the lazy Philly gift givers, I’ve taken the time to gather some local, handmade gifts that will make every Mom jump for joy (except the one who wants a grandchild or a daughter/son-in law for mother’s day-that’s out of my jurisdiction).
Winter Ice Chrysanthemum Earrings
Instead of showering her with petals that will wither (and eventually smell), treat her ears to these delicate floral earrings that will make her gardening heart sing with joy. And to sweeten the floral pot, etsy artists, BijouxByAllison, will place the pair in a handmade gift box eliminating any packaging hassle for you. Just be glad that she’ll be wearing floral earrings and leaving the fashion statement of a tool belt at home on her next visit.
For the Gardener (who doesn't have her ears pierced)
Red Poppy Pin
sqrlbee’s fabulous 2.25” pin (made with hand dyed fabric) is the perfect accent for mom’s wardrobe (just as long as she is not pinning it to her fanny pack or favorite pair of mom jeans).
kitchen utensils & mixer diagram floursack towels
local artist, girlscantell, hand printed her fabulously intricate diagrams of kitchen utensils and kitchen aid mixer on floursack towels. This pair is perfect for the culinary guru who has been making edible masterpieces that outshine food network stars. Literal brownie points=she might bake you an extra batch to take home.
For the Sweet Tooth Momma
Vanilla Tulip Cookie Gift Box
Give the Girl Scout’s a rest and instead send your mom some sweets with a box of whippedbakeshop’s vanilla sugar cookies decorated with almond royal icing. The 6 individually wrapped cookies will arrive on her doorstep (if you order by May 1st). The perfect gift when you can’t make it home but want to send something sweet (and while you’re at it why not order a box for yourself. You did just send your mom a fabulous gift, so you deserve a treat).
Art Star Gallery & Boutique

This well known Northern Liberties boutique is well stocked with handmade goods and limited edition work from both local and global artists. Philadelphia Magazine tagged it as “the cities first cutting-edge craft shop."

For the Adornment Addict
esther k.- jacqueline necklace
Treat your mother to one of esther k.’s fabulous handcrafted brass necklaces. These one of a kind gems were inspired by esther k.’s home town, New Orleans (although philly is her home now). And mom will be happy to know that your gift to her will keep on giving, since a portion of sales benefit ARTDOCS, an organization that provides affordable health care to community artists.
