The Ultimate Planning Guide For Any Geeky Bride
Here comes the bride, all dressed in...green? From Shrek and Star Wars to Super Mario and Street Fighter, these brides and grooms are pulling out all the stops to ensure their weddings represent their geek sides. Whether you're a level 10 geek or a complete newb, there's something in this guide to help you geekify your wedding day.
The Proposal
The proposal sets the tone for the entire wedding. A lame one can be detrimental. The on bended knee, roses in hand bit is old. Been there, done that. Be creative. Take a seemingly normal event and turn it into something magical. Do what’s never been done. She will remember this for the rest of her life. Would saying “May the force be with you” be too much? Yes? Okay…
A word of wisdom: Make sure your bride-to-be (or groom) is in fact okay with geeky proposals. I know many women who would punch a guy in the jugular if he proposed via a text message or twitter. Me, on the other hand, well I’m all for it (hello Mr. Jenn!)
I believe this has been done a few times. It’s a risky move, but if you’re sure that this is “the one,” then you won’t have to worry about those fists of fury.
Proposal 2.0
So this guy cheated a little bit. He had already proposed the traditional way, hence the 2.0. After Google set up some streetviews near Googleplex (a.k.a. my mecca), Google employee Michael Weiss-Malik used the opportunity to re-propose to his girlfriend.
Third time is a charm
Cobb wanted to do something special for Williams. Why not propose at LEGOland in Vegas? With the help of a “Lacey Will You Marry Me?” sign created by one of the park’s model builders, he proposed. Unfortunately Williams walked by the sign on the mini Eiffel Tower twice before Cobb got down on bended knee.
Well this is a man after my own heart. Bryan Haggerty designed an iPhone app that would lead his girlfriend through a scavenger hunt that ended with her finding Bryan and him proposing. That lucky little bi…I mean. Ahem. Everyone let out an “awww.”
A Very Hacky Ending
Bernie Ping, a computer programmer, proposed to his girlfriend by hacking a game of Bejeweled (also my favorite way to waste time.) PopCap, the maker of the game, is flying the couple to Seattle as part of their honeymoon and handing out copies of the game to wedding guests.
The Ring
When women tell you that size doesn’t matter, they’re lying, on all accounts. That applies to hard drives, flash drives, you-know-whats and wedding rings. But what do I know? My second-grade boyfriend gave me a ring made out of a pipe cleaner. I cherished it for years until that unfortunate accident occurred. By unfortunate accident I mean very fortunate spring cleaning.
Cat 5 Wedding Ring
“The world is your technological oyster.” The female ring has a choice of four opaque colors: turquoise, white, orange or black. The male ring, ironically, is transparent.
Say "I Do," Record it, and Wrap it Around Her Finger
This is a cool way to wear your heart – and your lover’s voice – on your sleeve. Virtual waveforms of a recorded message are transformed into a real-life ring. Because saying “I Do” just isn’t enough. Designed by Sakurako Shimizu.
The Cake
You know the real reason why people have weddings right? Well, besides all the money and duplicate, yet returnable, home appliances. It’s the cake. Yep. Honest to God truth. If you don’t have a good cake you can expect a pretty crappy marriage. It’s true. Google it.
Superhero Wedding
So this couple didn’t go ALL out for their geeky, superhero themed wedding, but I’m partial to green so I had to include it. The groom wore a green tie and the bride wore a green sash around her dress. Woah. Those rebels. The cake looks good though!
Love at first type
Would you ever guess that they met on the Internet? This couple decided to have two laptop-shaped cakes made for their wedding, complete with their online dating profiles. And of course, you can’t forget the tiny cups of Starbucks coffee off to the side.
The King of All Cakes
Everything in the pictures of this cake is 100% edible. “This Chocolate Decadence Cake (black chocolate cake filled with bittersweet chocolate ganache, chocolate buttercream and chocolate mousse) was as delicious as it was unique.” This cake looks TOO good to eat. Created by Beth from Let Them Eat Cake.
I wonder what's on their playlist
Adam and Kinsley Mull insisted on having a green iPod mini wedding cake.

Geeky wedding favors
Assuming your wedding has no budget, why not give away these heart-shaped flash drives instead of a tiny bag of candy? Sure it’s about $38 bucks for a 2GB and you’d have to pay for some outrageous shipping from Japan…but love has no limit right?
This makes me smile

I have to admit that while I’m no where near planning my wedding, I’m bookmarking this bad boy. I can totally see myself putting my mini-Mii on my wedding invites.
The Offbeat Bride went with pixelated save-the-date cards, complete with a mini bride and groom.
The Dress
Assuming you’re going the traditional route, the dress is quite possibly the most important part of the wedding, next to the bride of course. So how can the bride turn the dress into geek chic? It’s simple actually…
Who wouldn’t want to stick 300 white LEDs into their wedding dress? While I’m not too sure about their song choice (That annoying tune from Armageddon – people died in that movie by the way – great first dance pick), the dress is kind of cool. I wonder if she breaks any when sitting down?

You’re a bit more on the unconventional side, eh? White dresses, satin sashes and tiaras make your skin crawl. Well have no fear! Themed weddings are here! (Note for the future Mr. Jenn: I totally draw the line at LED lights.)
The bride is wheeled out on an autopsy table, I kid you not. The guests are all zombies. They moan and groan. Instead of saying "I do, " they release what can only be described as a “must-eat-brains” grunt. Yeah I can’t believe it.
Mr. and Mrs. Green (I couldn't make this up)
Christine England married her fiance Keith Green in full costume and make-up in front of 100 guests who were also in costume. Christine said: ‘The idea just came to me. I knew what we would go as because Keith looks just like Shrek." Well that’s…um…romantic?
A Smoregasboard of Geek
Groom: Boba Fett (without helmet)
Bride: Wore replica of the dress worn in Labyrinth.
Guests: Ranged from Spider-men and Batgirls and at least two Master Chiefs that served as ushers.
The Twist: “When the priest, who just happened to be dressed as an Imperial officer, asked if anyone had any objections, someone said they did. It wasn’t just any person, it was another Boba Fett. No, scratch that, THE Boba Fett. Jeremy Bulloch, who portrayed Fett in the good Star Wars films, showed up in costume”
End Result: A pissed off bride. She had NO idea Bulloch would show up and “ruin” the wedding. Come on! If you’re going to have a nerd wedding, you can’t get all pissy about the details.
Star Wars
Groom: Mon Calamari mask
Wedding officiator: Boobies, er, Princess Leia.
Bride: Oh yeah…there was one.
I read something about Ewok cupcakes…

The Dance
This is my least favorite and also favorite part of weddings. You see, I can’t dance. I’m rhythmically-challenged. I’m also not a big fan of everyone watching me while I clumsily stumble over my and my new hubby’s feet. It’s my favorite part because I don’t mind watching OTHER couples make fools of themselves.
The good stuff starts around 1:35. I’m quite impressed by Brian’s moves.
Good stuff starts around 1:45. You gotta love the fake-outs. “Oh we’re dancing so beautifully, watch me twirl…BAM! Bust a move!!”
The Reception
Some would argue that the reception is everyone’s opportunity to celebrate the loving union of the bride and groom. Others…well it’s a time to get drunk and hit on bridesmaids. Whatever your fancy, it’s best to keep it entertaining. Ditch the chicken dance and offer your guests something with flavor!
Rent A Photo Booth
How else can you keep track of all the drunken debauchery that occurs at your wedding? I mean, the memories…capture the memories.
These are actually quite fun!

Gaming
Set up a gaming area. Believe it or not, not everyone likes to dance like an idiot at weddings. Sometimes it’s down right dangerous to let these people step foot near the dance floor. Get people out of their seats and away from the dance floor with a gaming area. Bring a TV, your Wii, 2-4 wiimotes and a few games for people to choose from. I recommend Mario Kart or Wii Sports.
Video Game Themed Table Cards
This bride & groom to-be embraced their geekiness and have created table and escort cards based off of popular video games, including Doom, Guitar Hero, Pac-Man, Super Mario Bros., Streetfighter, Zelda, etc. Check out more pictures at: http://bit.ly/j5MXM
