I live in Allston (a small neighborhood of Boston), have done so for two years, and will likely do so for at least one more. People consistently (and occasionally accurately) dismiss it as a filthy den of sin populated entirely by drunken young maniac...

The shining star of an otherwise bleak Allston coffee landscape, Herrell’s is pretty much the best. It was better last summer when the old owners didn’t care about anything and practically everyone in the neighborhood got everything for free, but it is much cleaner and better-tasting now and the new ownership has begun showing a rotating selection of local artists.
I would probably go here to work all the time if I owned a laptop.
There isn’t much for me to say about Herrell’s that I haven’t said already , but it’s still one of my favorite places around. They make their own ice cream, and their frappes (known to people outside the area as “milkshakes,” I guess) regularly win awards.
