Photo ops that won't cost much.

Space Needle

400 Broad St, Seattle, WA 98109

Let’s start with the obvious. The quintessential Seattle landmark since its construction in 1962, the Space Needle is probably the only thing folks back home will think of when you tell them about your new digs. You can pay $16 to go to the top, or you can walk around Seattle Center for free and snap pictures of this googie gem. Just don’t try to capture one of you holding it up or you’ll just look like a tourist.

Buses: 3, 4, 5, 8, 16, 26, 28, 30, 82, 358; also, the monorail.

Elephant Car Wash

616 Battery St, Seattle, WA 98121

It’s an iconic Seattle landmark- a giant, smiling, lighted, rotating, pink elephant. Even if no one recognizes it from the many Seattle-based movies it’s supposedly been in, who cares? It’s a giant, smiling, lighted, rotating, pink elephant.

Fremont Troll

Under the Aurora Bridge- N 36th St Seattle, WA 98103

An enormous cement troll palming a VW bug. Awesome. You have to check this one out.

Buses: 5, 16, 26, 30, 31, 45, 46, 82

Gasworks Park

2101 N Northlake Way Seattle, WA 9810?

This is the place to go for spectacular city views across Lake Union. The eponymous gasworks are also pretty sweet.

Bus: 26

Pike Place Market

85 Pike St, Seattle, WA 98101

People may not know Pike Place Market by name, but if you describe it as “the place where they throw the fish” folks will understand.

Buses: 10, 12, 15, 18, 21, 22, 56, 57, 81, 99, 113, 121, 122 and many more

Starbucks Coffee

1912 Pike Place Market, Seattle, WA 98101

Seattle may have a ba-jillion little independant coffee shops that serve great coffee, but your friends back home will be impressed that you’ve been to (and photographed) the first Starbucks. Extra points to taking a picture of the barista making the same exact drink that you can get in any one of Starbucks’ million locations.

Bruce Lee's Grave

1554 15th. Ave. E Seattle, WA 98112

Is it considered disrespectful to take pictures of yourself doing karate poses on someone’s final resting place?

Buses: 10, 12

I love going to the Fremont Sunday Market. Antique junks, used clothes, furniture, crafts, arts and vintage stuffs.

Alki Beach

The best place to get a full shot of the Seattle skyline is definitely going to be at Alki Beach (where above photo was taken). Not to mention that Alki Avenue is lined with some awesome eateries, pubs, and cute rollerblading girls.

I have no disrespect for Bruce Lee — quite the opposite really. With that said, I won’t deny the existence of pictures that show me practicing the Jeet Kune Do punch at his gravesite. But for the record, I was behind it and not on top of it.

I missed Seattle. Such a great place to live in. I miss visiting Fremont Sunday Market, University Farmer’s market, Trader Joe, International district ($7 a dozen oysters!), Pike Market of course, Westlake Center, University Village, my Russian mechanic in Ballard, Evergreen Hospital, Pioneer Square, University Canal…. Enjoy.
