Denver is unique in the automotive world. Our buying ebbs and flows in a similar pattern to California and other warm states even though we have a snowy winter. Usually, cold months slow car sales in cold states – but not Colorado. Denver maintains a healthy ratio of car sales year-round. That’s not to say sales peak during winter, although you will find some additional deals to bring in customers from the cold. Here are some other tips about the where’s and when’s of good purchasing times.

Buying Cars in Denver

The Best Time to Buy

The best time to begin your research for a new car is mid April. Why? That’s after the Denver Auto Show which I HIGHLY recommend attending. There is no pressure and you can sample cars till your heart’s content. Once you narrow down your choices, then test driving becomes an easier task as you are somewhat familiar with the vehicle.

September and October models

In the past, the next year’s models would roll out in September and October. During these months, it was an excellent time to make deals on the outgoing models as dealerships were willing to wheel and deal a little bit more than usual to empty their old inventory.

This still happens to a certain degree; however, over the past decade many automakers began to move release dates back. Late spring is now the new October. I know, it’s kind of odd to have 2010 models coming out so soon.

So, if you’re researching a current year’s model, have a look and see when the next year’s model is slated to be released (a phone call to a dealership often works). Once you’ve come up with the month of the release, shop the prior month to the new vehicle’s release and you should find some deals.

Tent Event(s)

Many large auto dealers have “tent” events in a variety of places throughout the year. Late spring and summer are popular times for these events. Some of the larger automotive purveyors might use the massive parking lot at Invesco Field during dry months for an enormous sale.

These can be good opportunities for good deals.

Services provided for attendees at the convention center include a full business center, multiple ATMs, Internet services and a gift shop. Viewed from downtown, the center's most recognizable feature is the sculpture of a large blue bear, rearing up on its legs as if peering curiously into the building. Take a look at the Jeep section. Very soon, (just announced) we will have our very own series of Jeeps called the “Rocky Mountain Edition” series. These models with have unique equipment, colors and pricing. Currently, the Jeep Patriot, Jeep Liberty and the Jeep Grand Cherokee are slated to be Rocky Mountain Edition vehicles.

Cool – no?

Also, check out all of the “Green” vehicles at the show. This year has a much higher concentration of environmentally friendly vehicles than any other.
