When the owner of Village Pizzeria moved to the West Coast from New York, he missed Brooklyn-style thin crust pizza the most. So he opened one in San Francisco. "Brooklyn flavor with California fresh" was his recipe. It was a big hit in the Bay Area. While vacationing in Los Angeles in 1996, he wandered into Larchmont Village and spotted an empty store. He couldn't find a more perfect location. Today, Village Pizzeria is one of the main attractions of Larchmont Village. Their pizza is incredible, especially the pepperoni which is Whale's favorite. The sausage, veggie and plain pizza is also fab. Whale and his former co-workers ate here numerous times. When guests visited the office, we always convinced the boss to order from this place even though it wasn't exactly close. The food here is always fresh. Whale also tried other items such as the breaded chicken parmesan sandwich. It's really good. The place isn't huge so get there early or late. Takeout available. (Photo by Mani Yang)

In Between Bites

Pizza so good that the boss will steal it
Whale used to work at a place where the guy who made a quarter million was the one who ate all of your food. Whale sat next to Evgeni (we’ll use that name to protect the victim). Evgeni was a slim guy even though he ate a ton. Anyway, we went to Village Pizzeria and Evgeni brought back a slice so he could snack on it later. He was working at his desk when the boss stopped by and noticed the box of pizza. “Are you going to eat that?” he asked. Before Evgeni could respond, the boss took it. At the end of the day Whale was shaking his head. “Dude, sucks that he took your pizza.” Evgeni grabbed Whale and took him to the boss’s office. He showed Whale the trash can and inside it was the slice of pizza. “What?!?” Whale said as he examined it closely. “He just ate the cheese? That is so wrong!” We mourned the wrongful demise of a delicious slice of pizza.

What parking problem?

Everybody complains about parking at Larchmont. True, it’s tough. But don’t worry, Whale has figured it all out. Drive out of N. Larchmont, hang a left on W 1st St then hang another left on N. Gower St. and park here. You’re now parallel to N. Larchmont. Yes it’s a neighborhood but it’s public parking. There’s tons and tons of spots on N. Gower. Whale has parked here many, many times. Just don’t block a driveway and observe any signs. Walk to Village Pizzeria – it’s only five minutes away.
