The MEN of Sex and the City
Continuing on my Cliff Notes guide of the series, I dive further into the characters that played an important role in the series. Get to know the men of the city, what we loved and hated, and where you might be able to get your hands on a similar stud in a city near you!
Mr. Big
Carrie’s one true love throughout the entirety of the show. Bold and powerful in all aspects of his life except for the love department, Mr. Big knew just the right ways to cause Carrie to feel love and pain.
Why we love him: Honestly, this one is to be debated. When Big did treat Carrie like a decent human being, he made sure to treat her like a queen. Let’s also not forget that he traveled to Paris in order to find “the one who got away.”
Why we hate him: Commitment issues, leading on Carrie, and not being able to see what’s right in front of his eyes.
Where to find one like him: At ANY A-List event near you. Be it an opening, a gala, or any event for the upwardly mobile, you’ll most certainly find your own Big.
Aiden Shaw
Furniture designer, simple minded, and hopeless romantic. The big softy with an even bigger heart.
Why we love him: Aiden worshipped Carrie. He’s grounded, a hard worker, and a true romantic.
Why we hate him: He’s a little too rustic and not enough edge for the city.
Where to find him: Try spending some time at your favorite furniture stores or art galleries, and you’ll more than likely discover another Aiden.
Jack Berger
Author and a sarcastic smartass, Berger is quite the talker.
Why we love him: His witty sarcasm and his great sense of humor.
Why we hate him: Breaking up on a post it note. Seriously!?
Where to find him: Try a coffee shop (and I’m not talking Starbucks)
Aleksandr Petrovsky
Petrovsky, the true definition of “old school.” Old in his ways, and even older in his age.
Why we love him: Traditional and incredibly romantic. Every moment with him is enough to make you swoon.
Why we hate him: Extremely caught up in himself, Petrovsky never puts anyone but himself first.
Where to find him: An art gallery, the opera, or the ballet. You’ll have good luck finding your Petrovsky any place old world.
Samantha's Men (well... one nighters not included)
Richard Wright
Pompous, cocky, and arrogant, Richard Wright is the virtual male equivalent to Samantha Jones. A hotel magnate with everything he wants in life, except for true love.
We we love him: Confidence, class, and determination. Richard had been very driven to succeed and had proven himself as one of the most powerful men on the show.
Why we hate him: A dating whore, Richard doesn’t understand the idea of monogamy.
Where to find him: A swanky hotel bar (try the W or the Westin).
The young, starving and broke (yet ridiculously sexy) actor looking to make it big, Smith is quite possibly the best thing to ever happen to Samantha.
Why we love him: Young, loyal, ambitious, and a body out of this world.
Why we hate him: Immature and very broke. Smith has simple living down to a ‘t’.
Where to find him: Waiting tables at the hottest restaurant in town.
Trey MacDougall
Traditional East Coast prep, Trey is the perfect man on paper but not so good in reality.
Why we love him: Amazing looks, money, and class.
Why we hate him: A mama’s boy through and through, Trey only reports to one women (and it’s not his wife…)
Where to find one: The Country Club or the golf course.
The stereotypical Jew. A Loudmouthed lawyer whose head over heels for Charlotte.
Why we love him: He’s absolutely gaga for Charlotte, knows what he wants out of life, and knows how to get it.
Why we hate him: Out of all of the men on Sex and the City, Harry is the one who tends to lack manners or class.
Where to find one: A synagogue at a singles mingle.
Miranda's Men... wait... Man.
Steve Brady
It seems quite odd to me that Miranda only had one true relationship throughout the entire show (not including the one nights). Steve is quite possibly the most down to earth guy out of the pack.
Why we love him: Living a simple life with simple pleasures, Steve is at his most content when worshipping the love of his life.
Why we hate him: No motivation, no goals or dreams for the future beyond bartending.
Where to find him: Bartending at a dive bar near you.
Stanford Blatch
Carrie’s gay husband, Stanford is always around for moral support.
Why we love him: Flamboyant style, and a reliable shoulder to cry on.
Why we hate him: Sensitive and dramatic, needy and often times high maintenance.
Where to find him: Barney’s or any other high end department store.
Anthony Marentino
Loud and obnoxious, Anthony is very stylish, knows what he wants and will do just about anything to get it.
Why we love him: A great sidekick with style
Why we hate him: Loudmouthed and often times very rude. The queen of all queens.
Where to find him: A Bridal Parlor, planning his clients next big wedding.
