Marietta is a city located in central Cobb County, Georgia^GR6, and is its county seat. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 58,748, making it one of metro Atlanta's largest suburbs. Census Estimates of 2004 indicate a population of 60,547.

Southern Polytechnic State University, Chattahoochee Technical College and Life University are located here, and the city operates its own school district, separate from the county. Dobbins Air Reserve Base is on the south side of town, separated from SPSU by a Lockheed-Martin manufacturing plant. The city also operates Marietta Power under the auspices of the Board of Lights & Water (BLW). The BLW is also party to the Cobb-Marietta Water Authority. The city formerly operated Marietta FiberNet, a fiber optic network, but was forced to sell the network to American Fiber Systems after substantial losses.

Downtown Marietta features Glover Park, the historic town square and former location of the county courthouse. The Strand Theatre on the square is being renovated back to its original design. The Marietta Gone With the Wind Museum, also called "Scarlett On the Square," houses one of the world's most extensive collections of memorabilia related to both the book and the film. The CSX trains between Atlanta and Chattanooga (Western & Atlantic Subdivision) still run a block west of the town square, past the train depot (now the visitor center) and the Kennesaw House, one of only two buildings in Marietta not burned to the ground in Sherman's March to the Sea.

Marietta's sister cities are Heredia, Costa Rica and Linz am Rhein, Germany.

How Does The Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser treatment targets the dark color of the melanin pigment in the hair follicle. The light energy passes harmlessly through the skin, but is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle and hair shaft. By absorbing this laser energy, the hair follicles are disabled, impairing their ability to grow. The laser is effective on hair follicles in the “Anagen” phase, which is the active growth phase of hair follicles. Not all follicles are in the growth phase of the cycle at the same time. Thus, leaving treatment times strategically spaced over the course of the hair cycles. However, individual hair growth phases vary. Most facial hair goes through an active growing phase every 4-6 weeks and non-facial hair every 8-12 weeks.

Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described like the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort resolves quickly and is minimized by Candela’s DCD cooling. For some patients, a topical anesthetic may be used prior to treatment. Be sure to discuss this with your practitioner.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin. For hair removal, multiple treatments are required, as the process is most effective when the hair follicle is in its active growth phase. Other conditions may clear up in only one treatment, but many factors impact the efficacy of individual laser treatments, including the severity of the condition being treated.

How Do I Prepare My Hair Removal Treatment?

Patients schedule for hair removal should avoid plucking, electrolysis or hair waxing approximately four to six weeks prior to treatment. If you have a history of herpes simplex virus and are scheduled for laser treatment, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed. Also, your skin should be clean-shaven, and your skin should be thoroughly cleansed and dried, removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or self-tanning products before laser treatment. The intended treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for 14 days prior to treatment. Before laser treatment, prevents sun exposure by applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above).
