Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. Since I'll be moving over Halloween weekend this year, I'm starting early with the festive guides and preparing my costume ideas for my drive across the country.

Hanging Human Head

It hangs, it vibrates, it freaks people out. For $50 you can traumatize children all around the neighborhood. Want to be scarier? Put it out on other holidays, not just Halloween.

The Fear Haunted House

600 East Grand Avenue Chicago, IL 60611

Zombies get in free! On October 3 zombies are invited to gather at the fountain in front of Navy Pier at 4:30 to celebrate the opening. You’ll parade around the pier and directly into the haunted house.

Bloody Butcher Heart

I’m not sure who would fall for this, seeing how it says “Ghost Meat Shot” on the top. But if you know someone who doesn’t pay a lot of attention to things they’re doing, go for it!

Eleventh Hour

434 E Devon Avenue Elk Grove, IL 60007

Four scary scenes in one convenient location: Eleventh Hour, Intensity, Creatures of the Corn, and Catacombs. Eleventh Hour opens October 2nd.

Animated Rat

I can attest to this gadgets scariness. 1) It’s a rat. 2) It nibbles on you. 3) It makes very creepy sounds while doing so.

Statesville Haunted Prison

17250 S. Weber Road Crest Hill, IL 60441

I know this isn’t really close to Chicago, but a scary prison might actually be worth the drive. Once you actually make it out of the prison it’s not over. You then have to make your way through the City of the Dead.

For $40 you can freak out your family and friends with this lighting effects machine. You can control it so the lights dimmer or flicker on and off. It would scare me.

Ghost Books

Ghost books exist. Don’t underestimate the spookiness of a random pile of books. They might move. They might not. But if you have this nifty animated book set they will.

I have to admit that this is kind of awesome. If I weren’t moving over Halloween weekend I would consider this for my own costume. Or maybe my Twitter feed… Oh the possibilities!

I can only imagine that this little girl will have messed up expectations of relationships when she grows up. Other than that, I want a pet zombie!
