Discontinued Food Products :(

Why do the best products seemed to get discontinued? Is everyone else just ignorant about what is awesome on the store shelves? Must be! What favorite purchaseables of yours tragically became discontinued, never to make an appearance in your shopping center aisles again?

Crystal Pepsi

I was CONVINCED it tasted different, but after blind taste tests with friends, sampling Crystal Clear and regular Pepsi, we could never tell the different. Hmm…

Iced Animal Crackers

Like the one above! They came in a bright pink bag and I can’t remember who made them, but I know they were discontinued, or maybe the company went under? Any info is appreciated!

A&W Root Beer GUM

Widget_dirvar6n9blybwk-ozlm9e

Remember the root beer gum with the gel stuff inside? Freshen-Up made it too and I think that brand still exists. There was 7-Up, Dr. Pepper and Root Beer and at that point in life (age 7?), that was the most exciting eating experience I had had. This was before I discovered pulled pork, meringue and fried cheese…

I Tried!

So I was trying to think of foods that I loved as a kid that I can’t find anymore, and first I thought of Hydrox (my Mom bought us these instead of Oreos because Oreos supposedly had lard in them), but it turns out they brought Hydrox back like six months ago! So I thought hmmm… what about Pudding Pops? And it turns out after discontinuing those they’ve also brought them back! I guess I really need to start paying more attention when I go to the supermarket.

Chiquita Banana Chocolate Cookies

I have yet to find ANYONE who remembers these. I’m 90% positive it was Chiquita brand, but it could have been Dole. They were flat cookies in the shape of a banana with the one side covered in chocolate. I remember them being in my supermarket for approximately one month and I’m pretty much convinced I’m the only one who bought them AND loved them. Waaaaaah.

Mayan Mix - Trader Joe's

So elusive, I couldn’t even find a picture of it.

Mayan Mix was a peppery mix of sesame sticks, spicy rice crackers, nuts, and a whole bunch of other things.

I once lived off of it for an entire summer.

Then, it disappeared from the shelves. Trader Joe’s has a policy that you can request to bring items back, and that was the beginning of my grass-roots campaign for Mayan Mix.

Unfortunately, it was not successful. The Trader Joe’s staff politely asked me to stop requesting it and offered the name of a local therapist.

I’m soooooo not over, you, Mayan Mix!

I remember Crystal Pepsi tasting like window washing spray. How I know what that tastes like, I don’t know…
