I can’t argue with Nina – I had forgotten about Soft Cell – but I don’t know of a purer expression of 80’s derivative, superficial, but oh-so-catchy pop. Given that Soft Cell is the clear winner, I won’t even bother suggesting that Love Cats by the Cure or Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood deserve top honors.
I still remember the first time I saw this flippin’ cool video. It was at an 8th grade birthday party for a girl name Bridget. She had enormous hair. She was soooo cute.
One thing I never questioned about the music video in the 1980’s: The correlation between the song and what the heck was going on in the video. Bonnie and Clyde? Robin Hood? What the hell is this video about?
Anyone really seen the X-rated version of this video? Yes, I know of the “uncensored” version. But when I was in the 9th grade, that was like a totally big deal. And we were sure a XXX version existed
I dated a girl named… I’ll call her “Heather.” Actually, that’s her name. This was “our” song. I was 16. I drove a Monte Carlo with a t-bar roof. So did she. I am not making this up.

Oh, and Bowie was dead by 1980 – Tin Machine? Come on. Even genius fades over time.

Are you going to kick my ass when you find out I am a Bowie fan? Bowie in spandex to be exact.
#1 – Tainted Love version sung by Soft Cell in the 80s….
