Ahhh...to sit in the casino ballroom and listen to jazz...very nice! Catalina Island (real name: Santa Catalina Island) is way fun for a day trip from Long Beach where you may have just visited the Queen Mary. It also makes for a quick jaunt or overnighter!

Personally, I like to fly in (easy when your dad is a pilot), but the 2nd best way to get there is by boat. The Catalina Express and the Catalina Flyer are the most popular, both which embark from Long Beach, Newport Beach and a few other locations. The boats are quite fun and it’s great to feel the wind in your face. If you’re lucky you can catch a glimpse of dolphins and whales on your boat ride.
What to do:
Scuba, snorkel, shop, eat, relax, hike, enjoy your self! That’s what day or two day trips are for!
There are events on the island that are way fun and you should plan your trip during one of the events, unless of course you’re not interested in any of the events…in that case you might be boring and…oh well…to each their own!
Check out the visitor link for things to do. My favorites are para-sailing, snorkeling, boating and biking. There really is a lot to do, but it’s also a quiet island, so you can just as easily, relax, drink and get some sun! Most of all…have fun!
