Arboretum By Kayak

A short afternoon jaunt on the water is perfect for longtime residents and visitors alike. Anyone who has walked through the Arboretum or driven past (or inched past during 520 Bridge rush hour) knows there is a lot to access in the Arboretum by water. For a really long trip rent or put in your own kayak on Lake Union at NWOC (www.nwoc.com) or for short trips put in near Montlake - this is the best choice for newbies or if you have limited time. Go to http://www.aguaverde.com/paddle.shtml for information on kayak rental nearest the Arboretum. This trip is best when boat traffic is minimal as the trip through the Montlake Cut is grueling if boat wakes are bouncing you around. Once through the Cut head right and duck a low walking bridge to access calm backwater near going toward Madison Valley and the Broadmoor Country Club. Here you can try to circle Foster Island, but often deadfall across this slough makes paddling the whole thing difficult. Return & enjoy great food at AquaVerde.
