The preserve is just north of Paradise Hills near the Apex Open Space Park. In 1917 Charles Boettcher donated his mansion and 110 acres of land to Jefferson County, and though the center was lived within the mansion, a new and improved structure was built in 1997.

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is the Rocky Mountain region's most expansive museum dedicated to the the natural phenomena that exists in Colorado and the world around us. From minerals and gems to wildlife dioramas to space exploration, the museum has abundant opportunities for families to learn and explore. Children should not miss the "Discovery Zone", which has scientific presentations and story times along with hands-on exhibits. Located on the eastern edge of City Park south of the Denver Zoo, the museum contains a planetarium, IMAX theater, extensive gift shop and restaurant.

Animal enthusiasts can gawk at polar bears in Northern Shores, gander at the lions at Predator Ridge and view amphibians and fish in Tropical Discovery. When the weather is nice, visitors can take a spin on the beautiful handcrafted carousel or tour the zoo with a natural gas-powered train ride. The zoo is adjacent to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science inside City Park, a 300 acre park maintained by the city.

Founded in 1863, The United States Mint at Denver processes all the coins made with the mark "D", stores gold and silver, and produces commemorative coins authorized by the United States government. Housed in a stoic Italian Renaissance style building, the mint can produce 50 million coins a day when operating at full capacity. Tours walk visitors through the history of the mint and shows the production process from a viewing gallery. The Colorado branch of the Mint is located downtown, west of Civic Center Park.

The gardens is visited year-round with its popular outdoor concert series in the summer to the thousands of twinkling lights in the winter. Located in the Congress Park neighborhood, the garden is sandwiched between two of Denver's favorite parks, Congress Park and Cheeseman Park.
