Guide to the Unique Tours of Boston That You Probably Haven't Done

Freedom Trail? Check. Duck Tour? Check. We live in Boston, we don't need to go on tours of Boston. Or do we? There are actually tons of unique Boston tours you might not even know about. And some even involve...beer!
If you’re a bibliophile like me, you really need to take the Literary Trail Tour, where you can learn all about New England’s “novel” history (haha). Either take the Boston tour, the Cambridge tour, or the Concord tour…or why not all three?
You’ll visit the houses of famous authors, hear all about the authors’ lives, and probably learn a lot of stuff you never new happened in your own state.

I know, I know, you’ve done the Freedom Trail a million times. You really have no reason to do it again, right? Actually, I think you might. It’s called beer. Huh? Beer on the Freedom Trail?
Yes, beer is on the Freedom Trail if you take part in the Freedom Trail Pub Crawl. This tour takes you around and lets you learn about the history of beer in Boston while offering some samples for you to try along the way.
So, it may be a bit more sophisticated and educational than the pub crawls you’re used to, but I guess that’s all apart of growing up. And how cool will you sound the next time you’re at a bar and you know all about its history?
Never knew Boston had a spooky history, did you? Well, you’ll quickly learn on the Boston Spirits Walking Tour. Visit Boston burying grounds and see many sites that are said to be haunted.
Boo! You might not want to walk alone in Boston after learning about some of these spooks.
I’ve lived in Boston my whole life and haven’t done any of this awesome stuff. I’d be better off as a tourist!
North End Secret Tours
You may have been on the North End food tours, but have you been on the North End secret tours? Here’s where you’ll learn some of the lesser known facts about the North End including a visit to the narrowest residential house in Boston. You’ll also hear all about the Great Molasses flood of 1919 and see the oldest sign in Boston.
And don’t worry, the tour concludes with a cannoli from Maria’s. Phew.
After the North End Secret Tour, you’ll probably want to stick around the North End and further explore all those secrets, like the amazing restaurants and pastry shops!

I’ll admit, I’m a horrible photographer. I generally just take a whole bunch of shots and desperately hope that at least one of them turns out OK. Probably not the smartest idea. And I mean, if you’re going to be on a tour of Boston, you’re probably going to want to make sure you have some good pics, right?

You can either take the walking tour or the tour on wheels and you’ll see sites like the famous park bench from Good Will Hunting. You’ll also see where Ally McBeal was filmed and learn about the filming of Mystic River. Oh and you can also stop for a beer at Cheers or L Street Tavern, the Good Will Hunting Bar.
You’ll almost feel like you’re in LA. Well, not really. But hey, like I said, this tour is only going to grow with the recent plethora of movies being shot in Boston.
Leo probably won’t be there (you can dream though, right?), but the Boston Movie Tour will take you to a few of the locations from The Departed.
If walking around or riding a bus just isn’t your cup of tea, why not try a Boston Bike Tour? There are tons of different tour options, including in Downtown Boston, Cambridge, and an Emerald Necklace tour.
