So, you want to learn more about the current happenings in Boston? Blogs are the best places to do so, and Boston has some of the most fabulous blogs around. Here are all the blogs you've probably been missing out on reading. Oh wait, you said you want to write a Boston blog? Even better! You'll also find all the tools you need to get started and learn how to beat writer's block in Boston!
If you want to hear all the latest Boston news, read some funny stories, or just get to know your fellow city-dweller, you should check out what Boston has to offer in blogs. Here are some of the best Boston blogs that you SHOULD be reading!
Universal Hub is the ultimate in Boston blogs; basically one-stop Boston blog shopping. The guys behind it, Adam Gaffin and Steve Garfield, scan the Internet for Boston bloggers writing about news and happenings in Boston and aggregate them on the Universal Hub website. A most fabulous alternative to Boston.com
If you’re as big a fan of Boston Magazine as I am then you’ll definitely want to do a daily check of the Boston Daily Blog. The content ranges, but it’s a sure-fire way to hear about hot events and tons of Sox news.
Oooh, look at these cute girls! They’re from Boston and they do things like cook, go out to eat at Boston restaurants, and review products for a little blog that proves you don’t have to be Martha Stewart to be a culinary and lifestyle star.
Being the food lover that I am, I am frequently checking out Boston’s MenuPages blog. In fact, I’m kind of obsessed with it. It features Boston food news, rumors, tips, restaurant features, and more and more.
One of my fave parts is the “Blogston Proper,” which features local blogs talking about Boston restaurants and food. If you’re a foodie loving Bostonian, you MUST check this blog out!
Another fabulous Boston restaurant blog, this one will keep you up to date on restaurant openings, news, and tons of reviews. Can you tell I like food? Blogs are one of the best resources for foodie news!
Bradley’s almanac is the best in Boston music blogs. Want to learn what bands are going to be playing in the Hub in the upcoming months? This is the site to go to. The site also has tons of mp3’s and concert reviews.
Have you had your fill of Boston blogging? Maybe you like to travel outside of the city once in a while? Below Boston features the latest news and happenings from the area “below Boston” (duh) from Quincy to the Cape.
Boston Sports Blogs
There are WAY too many amazing Boston sports blogs, so I’m just going to list some of the best of the best. Whatever sport or team is your fave (as long as their Boston-based!) you can learn an incredible amount from these blogs.
All you need to be a Boston blogger is to be from Boston and to um, know how to write (at least a little bit). Of course you could always just post pictures…people love that too.
You’ll need to start by choosing a platform to blog from. Don’t worry, it’s easy!
Blogger is a really easy platform to use if you’re a beginning blogger. It’s especially easy if you already have a gmail account (and if you don’t have a gmail account, where have you been and why don’t you have one??).
WordPress.com is another simple to use blogging platform. Some people say it’s a bit more advanced than blogger, but be aware that you can only have one blog per account.
If you want an even more customizable blog, check out WordPress.org.
If a blog is like an online journal, Tumblr is like an online scrapbook. Tubmlr is fun because it’s so easy to just post things as you find them. You can even post from your phone, so if you’re wandering around Boston and see something cool, you can just send it straight to your Tumblr!
Hopefully you’ll love it so much you won’t even have to remind yourself to blog!
Got Writer's Block?
If you’re feeling fresh out of ideas to write about, you might need to get out of your house or apartment to get some inspiration. Here are some of the best spots to go to get ideas:
Peet’s is one of my favorite spots to do work because I can grab a coffee and do some crazy people watching. There are all types of people wandering through Brookline and I’ve eavesdropped on some extremely interesting conversations!

One of the best spots for people-watching in Boston; sit on the Common for an hour and I guarantee you will come away with more stories than you know what to do with. I’m tempted to start a whole Boston Common blog just filled with the craziness that occurs on this grassy little spot of Boston.

Where did this picture come from? I’ve never seen such normal people on the Common! Where are all the crazies? I swear, they’ll be there when you go.
The BPL is fabulous for curing writer’s block because, while you can easily find a nice quiet corner to work in, you can just as easily find a room full of interesting types of people, some straight from off the street. I spend a lot of time wondering where many of these people came from. Just be careful where you sit because seriously, many of the people here smell!

I hate the T. I hate all Boston public transportation. But truthfully, the MBTA isa constant source of writing material. I actually decided to start my first blog after gathering way too many T stories. Whether it’s the passengers or the drivers, someone is always doing something absolutely ridiculous.

Sadly, these kinds of people are not an odd sight when riding the T. You just need to pretend you don’t see them, while quietly taking mental notes.
Best Boston Spots For Blogger Inspiration
These are the only places you’ll need to go to get rid of your blogger’s writer’s block. Just make sure you have your laptop!
