Designed by the famous visual artist Maya Lin, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial pays tribute to the United States military personnel who served in the Vietnam War. Some three million people visit the memorial each year, which is comprised of two walls of reflective granite, inscribed with the names of the war's deceased and missing in action. The memorial is located in Constitution Gardens in the heart of Washington, D.C., northeast of the Lincoln Memorial.

One of the most famous memorials in the world, this awesome structure made from black granite was originally erected in 1982 and was designed by then 21 year old, Maya Ying Lin. The names of all 58,000 plus soldiers that were either killed in action during the Vietnam War or who remain missing are engraved on its walls. When you travel to Washington DC this memorial should be at the top of your list of things to see.
