Every Friday Local Matters celebrates the success of the week with a company-sponsored social event called beer-thirty. Once a year each department within LMI sponsors beer-thirty and goes all out to make the event a true legend. The latest beer-thirty sponsored by the Quality Assurance (QA) team was an international success with their "LMI Foosball World Cup Challenge!"
Cheers and Muscle-Mania: LMI’ers demonstrate that fun can happen at work…outside in the back parking lot, with beer, hot dogs, burgers, and vegetarian options too.
Where in the World are You From?
Mark the spot…all event attendees marked a spot on the world map identifying where they were from or where they connected with the most. LMI plans to use these maps inside the office to show off how international we really are.
LMI’ers are from all over the world!
LMI Beer-Thirty is Social Local
Make new friends, but keep the old…anyone else know that song?
Beer-thirty is a great time to meet new hires or just pretend like you are not a new hire and make someone feel really stupid for not knowing who you are.
Welcome to the team!
The Beer-thirty World Cup Challenge is stellar man, yeahhh, rock on!
LMI Trivia Gone Wild
What employee wouldn’t like being put on the spot in front of all of their colleagues with hard trivia questions about the history of the company? Here, drop your name in a hat and then we will call your name in front of everyone, including your boss, and your boss’ boss, and then we will ask you a question that you didn’t even know the answer to during your interview…. How do you feel now LMI employee?
The Meanies
They meant well, but they were the ones that picked “random” names out of a hat for the trivia questions. Of course, we loved them when we won!

Quote from Phil Harding about the LMI Trivia
“I had no idea our building was over 100 years old. Now I’m scared my wall will collapse!”
We had to hold back some winners after they charged the presenters demanding their prize… This guy in particular had to be hauled away by the QA security staff.
John Phillips holds his trivia prize with pride and joy. Hey, not everyone got a vacuum sealer…some people had to settle for a gift certificate!
The LMI Around the World Foosball World Cup Challenge
This year the Quality Assurance Team at LMI announced a new event for beer-thirty that involved a full-out party with food and drinks all based around “the great sport known as table football in England, tischfuball in Germany, taca-taca in Chile, calcio balilla in Italy, or simply foosball here in the States.” The challenge had eight teams of two, and each team represented a country with which LMI does business.
The competition was fierce, but the BBQ was cooking, the beer was being guzzled (from all over the world mind you), and the LMI parking lot was twinkling in the hot Colorado sun.
Everyone in this photo is wearing a snazzy shirt. That’s what happens when you work at LMI. All of a sudden, you are stylish!
Let the Games Begin!
The “Around the World Foosball World Cup Challenge” was structured as a bracketed, playoff-style single elimination tournament. This means that we wanted people to take the game seriously, but what we were really hoping was that they would hit the ball into the wrong goal.
This is the dramatic blimp view of an intense round between two rival countries.
Represented Countries
Some of the countries with which LMI does business:
Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, and Singapore
Friends Don't Let Friends Play for the Wrong Country
“Here, let me help you pin on your represented country onto your back….muhuhahaha, sucker!”
ZOMG, I Want That Plaque
Diane Cecil holds up the foosball grand prize.
I am not sure how this picture got in here, but I think it is in here to demonstrate that Team Canada was a favorite among the crowd.
100% Intense
Honestly, it was crazy intense… Like blurry, in your face, fast action across the field intense.
Quote from Jay Graves, Team New Zealand
“I have never felt so exhilarated and scared at the same time.”
Intense, yet friendly, players smile as they twirl plastic men in short shorts around in circles.
Quote from Brian Doyle, Team Singapore
“I’m glad we didn’t have to play Rhy and Dave since we would have looked really bad.”
This player got tattoos just to scare off his competitors…this team meant business!
