Up on the Rooftops of New York City

Even culture comes with a beer, I guess! The rooftop garden at the Met overlooks Central Park in all its glory. The advantage of being in a museum setting is that hopefully the Wall Streeters/sorority girls will be weeded out and you’ll be left with the intelligent, artsy types. In theory.

There is a decent drinks menu (mojitos, daiquiris), but in my experience, you can enjoy the roof as long as you want without making a purchase. Fridays and Saturday cocktail hours last till 8:30pm.

The Met is one of the largest art museums in the world and it features over two million pieces of art. I took my girlfriend here on our fourth date for an exhibit on Gustav Courbett. We shared our first kiss out front.

The best advice for a trip to the Met is to focus on only a few exhibits or rooms, rather than becoming overwhelmed by the immensity of the museum. If weather permits, the roof garden usually hosts a few installation pieces, but better yet, take in the sweeping views of Central Park and Manhattan.

What I don’t recommend? Taking up your date on the idea that you should bypass the donation counter and see how long you can roam around the museum without those little metal badges. Because guess what, it isn’t as thrilling as you were convinced it would be.
