Well, duh. Who couldn’t spend all day in here? I generally try to figure out what books I want ahead of time and then put them on reserve so I can just run in and out. But this doesn’t always happen. You never know what you’re going to find if you walk around for a while (besides gross homeless men snoring in the corners) and sometimes I just can’t help myself.
For a huge city, the BPL seems bare at first, but that’s because it’s got branches in every neighborhood. The good thing is that if there’s a book you really need, you can have it sent it from whichever branch it resides at.
Duh! Of COURSE the Boston Public Library is going to be a go-to spot for shelf-spotting. And browsing. With about a zillion books in two buildings (the McKim being the most impressive of the two), you’re sure to get lost in the wonder of your surroundings.

The BPL is fabulous for curing writer’s block because, while you can easily find a nice quiet corner to work in, you can just as easily find a room full of interesting types of people, some straight from off the street. I spend a lot of time wondering where many of these people came from. Just be careful where you sit because seriously, many of the people here smell!
