There are actually not that many bands that I would pay to see because I get bored easily and get tired of standing and paying too much for weak drinks. That being said, there are a lot of cool places in L.A. to do those things. So have at it.

This Silverlake indie mecca is tiny and uberhip. And yet, they still let me in.

This is where local bands play before they get famous and are played every 5 minutes on KROQ. Cold War Kids, check. Silversun Pickups, check. The sound here is loud, so be prepared to use sign language to tell everyone that you heard the band five years ago when they were still playing in people’s backyards.
