Martinsburg is a city in Berkeley County, West Virginia, USA. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 43,441 , 14,972 of which live within the city limits. It is the county seat of Berkeley CountyGR6. Martinsburg was founded in 1778 by General Adam Stephen who named it in honor of Colonel Thomas Bryan Martin, a nephew of Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron. It was incorporated by an act of the West Virginia Legislature March 30, 1868.
