Henderson is a city located in Henderson County, along the Ohio River in Northwestern Kentucky. It was called "Red Banks" by the native Americans who originally lived and hunted there because of the reddish clay soil on the banks of the river. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 27,373 and is part of the greater Evansville, Indiana metropolitan area. It is the county seat of Henderson County.The mayor of Henderson is Henry Lackey.
