Ottawa is a city in Franklin County, Kansas, 58 miles (93 km) southwest of Kansas City, on the Marais des Cygnes River. In 1900, 6,934 people lived here; in 1910, 7,650; and in 1940, 10,193. The population was 11,921 at the 2000 census. Ottawa adopted the commission form of government in 1913. It is the county seat of Franklin CountyGR6. The Christian Munsee Indians also influenced early settlement of this area.
