El Dorado is the largest city and county seat of Butler County, Kansas. The population was 12,057 at the 2000 census. Although the town's name appears to be derived from Spanish, it is pronounced IPA [ɛldəˈɹeɪɾoʊ] (listen). The county seat appears to be located in the dead center of the county. They have recently had grass fires from lack of rain.
