It is the birthplace of actresses Jean Seberg (1938-1979) and Mary Beth Hurt, actor Toby Huss, and professional baseball player Jeff Clement. It is also the birthplace of Cap Anson, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. Major league baseball player and Evangelist Billy Sunday lived in Marshalltown for a time.
