What's Your Ideal Dog?

Whenever I tell people I never had pets as a child they are shocked, shocked I tell you. No dogs, cats, hamsters, turtles, snakes, no nothing. So naturally, I am trying to make up for years of fuzzy neglect and often think about getting myself a dog. But since I'm strapped for cash and think it's mean to keep a dog in a not so large apartment, I'm holding out on my pooch purchase. But that doesn't stop me from constantly thinking about what type of dog I would get. If you had miles of backyard grass and an infinite dog food allowance what type of pup would you get?

Golden Retriever

I think a Golden is sort of the ideal dog. Super cute, super friendly, and tons of fun, the Golden is really man’s best friend. The only drawbacks are the shedding and the slobber— have you ever seen one of these guys drool? Man, oh, man.

In my experience they don’t drool that much. And they’re personalities are great. When I die, I want to come back as a golden.

Haha. I’d adopt you if you came back as a slobber-free Golden.

Siberian Husky

Despite looking somewhat like wolves, these dogs are super sweet. So sweet in fact that they’ll go up readily to strangers— a drawback if you’re looking for a guard dog. However, if you’re looking for something soft and fuzzy to cuddle with, and something to pull your sled, look no further.

A Pound Puppy Mutt

So I’m biased since this is a picture of my dog Willa. I’m all about mutts though. They seem to always be smart and sweet.

Basset Hound

Nothing like a good hound dog.

They have short hair so not as much shedding and the ones I have meet are great lap dogs. The one problem with this breed is I would have a hard time disciplining the dog with those big sad eyes.

Ahh hound dog.

Bull-Pei

Widget_aw5-yat4larlzd1kdhbc9k

1/2 english bulldog & 1/2 shar-pei and you have a bull-pei. This is Peanut Butter and she’s about five and a half months old right now. she was only 11 weeks in this pic. She is definitely an alpha with two fighting breeds, but super smart!

I have one too. He’s three now and looked just like this when he was a puppy, Minus the sailor suit, but did dress him as a vampire for halloween! So right about the alpha breeds, Sarah

Collie

I grew up with Peaches the Collie and she was seriously the best dog ever. SO gentle and calm; she let me dress her up in hats, sunglasses, and jewelry; drag her around the house; and cry into her fur.

Not the best watchdog in the world, but I don’t care. I can’t wait to have enough space in my life for a collie!

English Bulldog

My old neighbor had three English Bulldogs, and ever since then I’ve wanted one. Not only are they pretty darn cute, but they are some of the friendliest dogs you’ll ever meet. That, and they ride skateboards! It’s sort of the funniest thing you’ll ever see.

German Shepherd

Widget_c-3tfqffjhbiqruxnuxsgd

So when I was little our neighbor had a German Shepherd who was sort of afraid of, but now I think they make great dogs. They’re super protective, so instead of sleeping with a knife under your pillow you can just sleep with your German instead.

Pit Bull

Despite the reputation that surrounds the American Pit Bull Terrier, they are actually really good family pets. Ask any owner of a pit, like myself, and they will tell you how well behaved and loving pit’s truly are.

Whippet

My cousin has a mini whippet, Cherry. Cherry was so good with kids. My daughter loved how Cherry crawled right up into her lap. My cousin couldn’t say enough good things about this breed of dog. In her town if a whippet needs to be rescued she will always take another one in.

They seem skittish to me. One of my neighbor’s had one and he was fairly spastic.

The Cutie From the Cesar Dog Food Commercial

I don’t have a dog, but every time I see this ad I melt… I think I usually like big dogs, but this cutie makes me do that annoying girly voice thing… yeah, yuck, but come on! This kind of dog is a West Highland White Terrier.

Gimmeee grrrrrrrr

The kind that doesn't make you pick up after it...

Also, that contributes financially to its food fund, does not make dirty/wet foot tracks in the house and does not bark or make noises that are not cute. I.e. stuffed animals are the best!

I have a bearded collie and lets just say she was the runt of the fam. So I totally know what its like to have a stupid puppy. Regardless she’s still adorable and we love her for who she is. Love this guide! I WANT THEM ALL!

Another problem with Golden Retrievers: they are dumb. I had 2 growing up. They were very very sweet and very very pretty but D-U-M-B.
