The climbing rates of gas prices can be maddening. Do not lose hope! This guide will provide you with several easy methods to find cheap gas, if you are forced to use gas, and will provide you with alternative transportation suggestions.

Most of the time it is cheaper to buy more expensive gas that is closer.
Many people will drive a long way out of the way to find gas that is one cent cheaper. For a ten gallon tank, this will save you ten cents, and for a twenty gallon tank, this will save you twenty cents. Driving one mile costs you 27 cents at 15m/g, 20 cents at 20m/g, 16 cents at 25m/g, 13 cents at 30m/g, and 10 cents at 40m/g. In many cases, this means you will waste more driving to get the cheap gas than you will save on the fill up.
There are hundreds of tips to save gas out there.
The one that struck my fancy is about idling your engine. Most sources state that you burn from .5 gallons to 1 gallon of gas per hour idling your engine. And that you use about the same amount of gas idling your engine for 10 to 30 seconds as you use to restart your car. Just don’t turn your car off while in traffic.
