One day I was in the Whole Foods in Brentwood (a part of LA where Reese Witherspoon lives) and I was in the dairy section and who do I see, her BF, Jake Gyllenhaal! I totally freaked out and froze. When I finally came to my senses I ran around the supermarket looking for him, but alas, he was already gone.

One evening I was in a parking structure with my sister and her husband and we had a just parked our car when someone shouted out of their car to ask us if we were leaving so they could have our space. My bro-in-law said we weren’t but that there was another space nearby. When we get in the elevator, we see Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend— she was the person who had asked us if we were leaving!

A couple months ago I flew from LA to New York, and when I got on the plane, I saw Conan O’Brien sitting in first class! He didn’t look very happy— maybe he hates to fly.

I saw Scarlett Johannson wearing THIS VERY HAT SEEN ABOVE drinking coffee by herself, with a book, at the uberhip Intelligentsia in Silverlake. I think she was wearing glasses, too.

My first concert ever was Smashing Pumpkins in Billings, MT. I was PUMPED! I loved Billy and the entire Pumpkin crew. While waiting for the concert that evening we were hanging out at the mall. Rumors started circulating that Billy was in the arcade. My friends and I went as fast as possible and found him playing the basketball game. I waited until he finished, then asked him to sign our tickets. He said, “Sure. I just want to play some hoops.”

One night I was going to a concert in Hollywood and parked in a pay lot near the venue. After the show I was walking back to my car and I saw a group of people walking the other direction. They were being kinda loud so I started looking at them and I see Justin Timberlake! I’m not even a fan, but I still went a little weak in the knees.

One evening I was driving in Beverly Hills (near the Beverly Hilton where they host the Emmy Awards) and I looked over at the car next me (it was some type of humungo SUV) and Jeremy Piven was riding shotgun! I think I was probably staring at him because he looked at me and kind of gave me the nod. I almost died.

My sister belongs to this fancy schmancy gym in LA and she gave me a free week-long pass. Naturally, I went everyday to make the most out of it, and I saw Matthew Perry at the gym 3 times that week! I think he thought I was stalking him.

I had lived in L.A. for almost a year and hadn’t had any big celebrity sightings to write home about, so needless to say I was THRILLED to see TOM HANKS at Fred Segal! I think he was trying to return something, but he seemed nice.

Hunter S. Thompson

Hunter Thompson lived most of the time in the valley outside of Aspen, CO; I grew up in Grand Junction, CO. I had a good friend who lived and worked at his fathers tire shop in Glenwood Springs, the turn-off point for Aspen from I-70. I showed up one day to say hi as I usually did if I was driving to Denver.

First thing he tells me is how I just missed a certain someone in a fishing hat and jacket, aviator glasses, shorts, and galoshes driving a VW Baja Bug asking for tires prices. Well damn.

Twenty minutes later, this same guy, who is undeniably Hunter S. Thompson, shows up again asking more questions about tires. After a few minutes of smirking bewilderment I mustered up the courage to ask him if he was who I knew damn well he was. He replied, “Who me?! No. You’ve got the wrong guy.” Short of inviting me to his house, giving me anonymous pills and whiskey shots, and shooting guns with me – this was the best response I could have ever asked for.

Yes, I saw him often. He would frequent the Starbucks I worked at in NYC. I would keep him there longer by slowly making his drink and staring into his eyes.

We haven’t seen much of her on TV, but when I saw her at Starbucks, I was so excited! She asked for a Venti half calf latte. I gave her an extra shot and asked her to get me a job on SNL.
