I'll try to explain. Rick Astley was a blue-eyed soul singer in the late 80s. His best-known song was "Never Gonna Give You Up" in 1987. It's a really catchy tune. An online joke has emerged where you embed a link to the song's video on YouTube, but disguise it as something else. Usually you wrap it in some text proclaiming the link to be something useful or relevant. When users clicks on the link, they are bombed with this catchy number. They are also shamed into being "Rick Rolled."
MSNBC Viewers
who tuned in to watch the Palin/Biden debate got Rick-Rolled. Look over Chris Matthews’ right shoulder.
You
Something that this man will not, under any circumstances, give up
this is one of the nastiest rick rolling tricks. The window jumps all over your screen, and when you try killing it, you’re prompted with 20 or dialog boxes each displaying a line from the song.
Number 1 with a Bullet
The Rick Astley pie graph was No. 1 last night on Google Trends, the Billboard chart of teh Internets.
