Yellowstone in August
Yellowstone is a magical place. I toured around for 5 days last August, saw wildlife, watched old faithful erupt, and most of all, I have been reflecting on my life. It has been a wonderful few days. So, I decided to stay another day before I headed out. As I approached the park office, I noticed that there were red and green garlands around the window, Santa stickers on the window and the woman was wearing a red sweater with a Santa hat and Santa pin. I slowly approached her and asked…"how long have I been sleeping???"
August 25th is as very special Yellowstone National Park tradition. It began in the early 1900’s when visitors traveled through Yellowstone National Park’s roadway via stagecoach. On August 25th, a group of visitors were stranded at Old Faithful Inn by a snowstorm. They decided to turn their misfortune into a time of festive joy. By decorating a tree and singing Christmas carols, they celebrated the first “Christmas in August.”
For me, it was an experience I will never forget. An early Christmas present, perhaps.
Camping
I camped in Grant Village for 5 nights. Be sure to dress warm at night. I was a little shocked at how cold it could get. This is me on the first night…freezing. Good thing I could snuggle up to my dog, Maggs. By the way, the best time to camp for singles is towards the end of the summer when the kiddo’s are in school. There were 250 available spots at this campsite alone.
Another tip…camp close to a bathroom. When you have to go in the middle of the night, you don’t have to sprint that far to safety. REMEMBER: bear country
Off to the Next Destination
I hope that this guide was useful to you. I look forward sharing more experiences from my journey. Below is the route I have traveled so far in my teardrop trailer that I neamed “trailie.”
