Microdermabrasion can effectively remove or diminish age spots and light acne scars. The procedure is often called a "lunchtime" wrinkle treatment because it can be performed quickly in a cosmetic dermatologist's office. In administering a microdermabrasion treatment, the physician or esthetician uses a handheld instrument to spray tiny crystals onto the surface of the skin. The crystals gently exfoliate the skin's upper layers, while light suction simultaneously removes the crystals and dead skin cells. As with many other facial rejuvenation methods, more than one microdermabrasion treatment may be necessary for wrinkle removal and to reduce undesired pigmentation.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is the most effective, non-invasive skin resurfacing process available. Using a specially designed handpiece, a spray of crystals is directed onto the skin at a high velocity and then immediately vacuumed away, resulting in the removal of the top layer of the strateum corneum. The fresh skin just below the surface is then exposed, creating a glowing new complexion. Patients may return to normal activity immediately, unlike the more invasive chemical peels or laser procedures.

Microdermabrasion can be effective in reducing the appearance of:

• Hyperpigmentation
• Fine Lines and Winkles
• Acne Scars
• Blending Post-Laser areas
• Sun Damage
• Uneven Skin Tones
• Enlarged Pores
• Age Spots

Kennesaw is a city in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 21,675 at the 2000 census. Census Estimates of 2004 indicate a population of 27,443. The original name for the town was Big Shanty, and it is now considered a suburb of Atlanta.During the American Civil War, Kennesaw was the site of major fighting in the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, part of the larger Battle of Atlanta. Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park now contains many of these historic areas, though much of this land has been developed, and some buried artifacts taken by people with metal detectors. Kennesaw Mountain (as well as conjoined Little Kennesaw Mountain) is included in the park, and its summit is the highest point in the Atlanta metro area, at an elevation of 1808 feet (551 meters) above sea level.Weather Channel personalities Sharon Resultan and Mike Bettes reside there.Kennesaw State University is located just east of the city limits, and uses the silhouette of the two mountains as its logo. The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History is located downtown, next to the railroad tracks on Cherokee Street, just off of Main Street (Old U.S. 41). The museum is the current preservation and display location for The General, the locomotive that played the key role in the Great Locomotive Chase. The area around Kennesaw is also a major retail hub with a major regional mall, Town Center Mall, numerous restaurants and most major chain stores located along Barrett Parkway southeast of the city.Kennesaw has the nickname of "Gun Town, USA" due to a city ordinance passed in 1982 [Sec 34-1a] that requires every head of household to maintain a firearm with ammunition. It was passed partly in response to a 1981 handgun ban in Morton Grove, Illinois. Kennesaw's law was amended in 1983 to exempt those who conscientiously object to owning a firearm, convicted felons, those who cannot afford a firearm, and those with a mental or physical disability that would prevent them from owning a firearm. It mentions no penalty for its violation. According to the Kennesaw Historical Society, no one has ever been charged under the law.Criminologist and gun-control critic Gary Kleck attributes a drop of 89% in the residential burglary rate to the law (Kleck, 1991), and Kennesaw is often cited by advocates of gun ownership as evidence that gun ownership deters crime (see, for instance, this 2004 sheet of talking points from the Gun Owners Foundation). Other criminologists dispute the 89% figure, using the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting data, and find instead a small, statistically insignificant increase in burglaries after the law was passed (McDowall, Wiersema and Loftin, 1989; McDowall, Lizotte and Wiersema, 1991).The city's official website is at http://www.kennesaw-ga.gov.

Differences between Medical and Salon Grade Machines?

There are all types of machines on the market today, although many of them are not high quality. Microdermabrasion utilizes crystals to finely resurface superficial layers of the skin. Many salons, may have cheaper models …charging full price on a cheaper, less effective peel. Our Belladerma microdermabrasion is a medical grade machine.

Medical-grade technology surpasses that of salons

Microdermabrasion has become increasingly popular over the past few years, but there are a few reasons why you should not just have your treatment at just any salon.

The most important reason of these is the qualification of the practitioner. Our staff our fully trained clinical aestheticians. The other thing that makes a difference between salons is the microdermabrasion machine used. At ASTORIA medSPA we only use a medical machine (BellaDerma) which is far more powerful than those manufactured specifically for beauty salons.

FAQ's About Microdermabrasion

How does Microdermabrasion work and what results can I expect?
Microdermabrasion is a skin restoration process utilizing a controlled vacuum and fine aluminum oxide crystals to gently clear away dead and sun damaged skin cells revealing softer, smoother and more vibrant looking skin. By repeating this treatment over the course of several weeks, the younger, softer skin moves up to the surface. The desired effect of significant texture and color improvements will continue with time.

Microdermabrasion is the safest alternative to laser resurfacing and chemical peels with absolutely no downtime. A cleansing toner is first applied to the skin to remove excess oils for better application and penetration. The machine then delivers fine, sanitary aluminum oxide crystals to the face that “sand blasts” away dead skin and impurities. Afterwards a soothing toner is applied to the face and then a re-hydrating cream and sun block are applied.

How often can treatments be performed?
ASTORIA medSPA specializes in custom tailoring our clients individual skin care needs. Although there are immediate benefits after one microdermabrasion treatment, for optimum results a series is recommended.

How much time is needed for each treatment?
On average, the client will spend twenty to forty five minutes in treatment.

How Soon Will I see results?
You will notice an immediate improvement after your first treatment. Your skin will have a fresh pink glow and smoother texture. Improvements continue throughout your treatment program.

Is it painful?
Our client’s comfort is the top priority at ASTORIA medSPA. Generally speaking, Microdermabrasion is not painful and requires no topical anesthesia. Your skin may feel a little hot and appear a little pink for the first day.

The Bella Difference

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure in which the stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of the skin) is partially or completely removed by light abrasion. Different methods include mechanical abrasion from jets of zinc oxide or aluminum oxide crystals, fine organic particles, or a roughened surface. After trying many different systems, we chose the BellaDerma system for our microdermabrasion clients. BellaDerma is considered by physicians to be one of the most effective and safest microdermabrasion machines available. Microdermabrasion is a gentle and minimally invasive procedure not to be confused with Dermabrasion, which is an invasive procedure done to take off a deeper layer of tissue.

Microdermabrasion is used to rejuvenate skin, treat acne, remove sun-damaged skin and scars, reduce uneven skin tone and remove dark spots (age spots.) The procedure is comfortable and requires no anesthesia. Microdermabrasion can be used medically for scar removal when the scar is raised above the surrounding skin, but is less effective with sunken scars. Microdermabrasion can be very effective in the treatment of acne, with regular treatments providing the greatest improvement. Microdermabrasion should not be used on patients who have taken the medication Accutane (Isotretinion) in the previous twelve months.

There are microdermabrasion machines that use diamond or other tipped wands and do not use crystals. For multiple reasons we chose a system that uses aluminum oxide crystals. ASTORIA medSPA believes that the crystal-free machines produce microscopic tearing of the skin rather than the even abrasion that is produced by crystals. This abrasion is felt to be less traumatic for the dermis. It is also felt that there are multiple contamination issues with non-crystal microdermabrasion that are not seen with the crystal machines.
