Leave your car at home & get ready for an evening of dive bars, rednecks, cigarette smoke, and cheap long island iced teas made by a lovely lady named Doobie. What to do: 1. Park somewhere downtown and begin with Tanner's, as it's the nicest location (albeit the most expensive) and the most centrally located. 2. Walk down to the Old Anchor bar on your way to the real gem of this tour, the Past Time Lounge. 3. Head on down to the Past Tizzle & grab a corner chair. Here you can have Doobie's famous cocktails and smoke till your heart's content (unless the laws have changed in the last year or two) amongst Polk County's finest... My description wouldn't do this place justice, so you'll just have to see for yourself. You may or may not witness a bar brawl and will almost certainly run into some waitstaff from the Olive Garden (and other surrounding restaurants) if you're there past 11:00. Their juke box is surprisingly new and has an even more surprisingly excellent (or it was last time I was there) music collection. Remember: Doobie is awesome. Tip her accordingly. 4. Should you wish to continue your evening of wonderment (and you wish to make a trek), head on down to the Grove Lounge (I believe Doobie moonlights here too, on occasion) or over to Old Man Frank's. Both are superb and on par with Past Times. 5. And as always, you can join Winter Haven's finest in the wee hours of the morn and just after you've been tossed out of the bar, at Denny's. Enjoy your evening!!!
