In EVERY religion there are extremists, clearly they aren’t the NORM. Religion is a good thing when it isn’t turned into “us and them”, which only causes more seperation and fear. Fear is one of the most powerful emotions and when you have people living under this umberella or fear that people who have different beliefs than them are “wrong” it just causes more hatred and intolerance.

It makes people irrational

Can't we all get along????

It can take advantage of innocent people

Catholic Guilt

Don’t even get me started on this one. Some might argue that it doesn’t hurt anyone to spend your life in constant worry and regret…

Fighting over tiny strips of desert

Because God said it was yours and then he gave it to someone else, and now you want it back so you took it but then again, THEIR God says something else, so. Hey, let’s fight more!

Two Suggestions:

Rent the movie Hell House, about a church sponsering a “haunted house.” This is the scariest movie I HAVE EVER SEEN.

Also read Christopher Hitchen’s “God is Not Great”. He quite politely and rationally puts forth all the horrible things that religion has done to the world . . .

Don't really want to take a vacation there...

ABSTINENCE ONLY?

Now, I understand this is a personal religious choice, but it’s also just plain ignorance.

Hateful INTOLERANCE

I’m pretty sure that this isn’t the message that the loving God you’re supposedly following with such loyalty would EVER spread. This is the opposite of tolerance, love, non-judgment and acceptance that the word of God would teach.

More On Hell

On the subject of hell, I was recently trying to remember when I actually learned about the concept of eternal damnation, and I honestly can’t remember. This means I must have had some notion of it before I was even potty-trained…and isn’t that kind of creepy?
