While it seems like the Oscars JUST happened, it's almost time for the 2009 awards! 2008 offered a slew of movies that seemed like they could secure a nomination or two. So I want to know, who do you think is going to get an Oscar nod?

Slumdog Millionaire

I liked this movie a lot, but I do have to say it was a little bit too hyped. Still, I could see it being nominated for a few awards (my money’s on Best Adapted Screenplay). I also thought that the score was really great— AR Rahman definitely deserves a nod from the Academy.

Tell No One

I absolutely loved this French thriller. I thought the acting and direction were great, and the music and cinematography were well-done as well. After I saw it I could hardly believe that the movie was adapted from a novel set in New Jersey. They made the whole thing seem totally utterly French. I’d love to see this movie get nominated for Best Foreign Film or Best Adapted Screenplay.

His character was incredibly dynamic, as an actor I would imagine this was an incredibly difficult role.

The Dark Knight

There’s one word to describe this movie and that’s INTENSE. Everything about it was dark and twisty, and it pretty much kept you on the edge of your seat for about 2 hours. While I think everyone in this movie did extremely well in the acting department, you have to admit that Ledger took things a step farther than anyone else. His performance as the Joker was both hypnotizing and horrifying; he easily managed to steal every scene he was in. I’m definitely not the first one to say it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Ledger was nominated for a posthumous Best Actor Oscar.

Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight. "

Frozen River

This aptly titled movie is chilling to the bone. The stark scenery and Melissa’s Leo performance are equally impressive. While this wasn’t a widely talked about movie, I could definitely see Leo getting a nomination for Best Actress. Even better, it would be great to see Courtney Hunt nominated for Best Director (that category has been male-dominated for too long).

Bruce Springsteen: The Wrestler

I wasn’t as blown away by the movie as most people seem to be, but I am utterly in love with the Springsteen song that plays in the trailer and over the end credits. If this song loses out to High School Musical, I am officially never watching the Oscars again.

I agree. Slumdog was awesome, but too hyped. My vote goes to The Wrestler.
