Who Would You Give a Grammy To?
So yesterday Grammy nominations were announced, and I have to admit I'm not as disappointed as I usually am-- Radiohead, Adele, and MIA all got nominations. But as usual, a ton of awesome albums and artists get overlooked every year at the Grammys, so I want to know, who do you think deserves to win a Grammy?
Don’t know who was nominated? Click here to find out!
Vampire Weekend
These guys totally deserve a Best New Artist nom— they’re going places where most bands aren’t. And while they might be places that Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon have already been, (i.e. Africa, the Caribbean…) does it really matter?
Silver Jews (Dave Berman)
I don’t keep track of who’s been nominated but I’m sure this hasn’t. I liked M.I.A.‘s first album better anyway so I’m not too concerned with what the Grammy’s are concerned with.
Silver Jews’ “Look Out Mountain, Look Out Sea” is honestly one of the best albums that came out this year and I’ve listened to it more than any other. Plus, the album comes with a full list of lyrics and chords along with directions on how to play each note.
Sigur Ros
These crazy Icelandic kids keep on putting out one great album after another. Sure, they speak in funny tongues and make strange sounds that are reminiscent of whale calls, but that’s part of their charm! Not to mention they are willing to pose butt-naked on an album cover.
Santogold
This album totally blew up this year. I mean it was seriously everywhere. On the TV, the radio, in clubs, in stores… This lady definitely deserves some props for putting together one stellar (and highly danceable, I might add), album.
Bon Iver
Pronounced Bon Hiver (which means “good winter” in French), this one-man band made a really beautiful record one winter out in the Wisconsin woods. I would nominate “Skinny Love” for Best Song in a heart beat.
So I know he wasn’t nominated, but I’d give a Grammy to this guy, because he’s amazing.
Lykke Li
This Swedish lady has been creating a rather big buzz with her ethereal voice. Watch out Sia (yet another overlooked artist when it comes to awards).
