While LA scenesters are very much about their weekday power lunches, they're also very keen on their laid-back weekend brunches. Whether it's post-drinking-binge or post-coital, brunch is quite the weekend ritual in LA, so don't be surprised if you have to endure a 30 minute wait. If you wake up hungry in the mornings you might want to consider eating before 10am or eating some granola bars before you head out, because you're in for a bit of wait.

In case you needed a reason why you should brunch…

Toast Bakery Cafe Inc

8221 W 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90048

If you have about 3-4 hours to waste on a Sunday morning Toast is a good choice. This is a VERY popular destination for brunch. The portions are big, and the food isn’t amazing, but it’s not bad either. If you’re one of those people that likes to be seen, this is your place.

Joan's On Third

8346 W 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90048

While it’s not 15 pages long, this upscale deli serves an elegant breakfast menu. And unlike neighboring Toast (which serves portions big enough to feed a family of four), Joan’s serves normal-sized meals, so you don’t walk away feeling like a syrup-filled glutton. But just in case, there is chocolate French toast (if you need to satiate your sweet tooth).

Aroma Coffee & Tea Co

4360 Tujunga Ave, Studio City, CA 91604

This cute cottage-like Valley cafe draws crowds for brunch (in case you’re too hungry to wait in line, nearby Caioti also serves a good brunch). The patio is an ideal spot for a laid-back Sunday morning meal on a sunny day. Good coffee, pancakes, baked goods, and scrambles have loyal patrons coming back for more.

The Bread Bar

8718 W 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90048

It’s funny how Breadbar has managed to stay in business in a city that was once (and probably still is) afraid of carbs. So it’s no surprise that you’ll most likely run into the odd European ex-pat here. Although they aren’t cheap, the breads and pastries are rather good for not having a Parisian zip code.

Square One Dining

4854 Fountain Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90029

Square One is not your average breakfast spot. Brioche French toast flavored with bourbon and pecans and baked eggs spiced with chorizo and gruyere are just a few of the outstanding choices here. And since it’s across the street from a Scientology center you’re chances of spotting a celebrity are pretty darn good.

Grub

911 Seward St, Los Angeles, CA 90038

Remember Betty Fraser from “Top Chef”? Well she co-owns this homey little restaurant. And one meal here will make you realize why Betty wasn’t kicked off on the first episode. If you’re not one to shy away from a hearty breakfast, try the croissant French toast or the blueberry-ginger granola pancakes.

John O'groats Restaurant

10516 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90064

This West LA diner is good destination for breakfast lovers who want options. There’s several varieties of pancakes to be had: mango macadamia, pumpkin, lemon, and applesauce, as well as many an egg dish: salmon hash with eggs, Creole-style eggs, bruschetta with poached eggs, and the famous “Huevos O’Groats.”

Likes: sweet pickles, English Bulldog puppies, jukeboxes, bicycles, and wheat beer. Dislikes: traffic jams, people who talk during yoga classes, murky swimming pools, excessively sweet frosting, and surly librarians.
