What did you dream last night?
I had the weirdest dream. Did you? What did you dream last night?
I ended up in Morocco
So I had the most bizarre dream last night. I dreamt I was on this beach in New Jersey, and the sand was piled in these really high dunes. I was having the worst time getting out of the beach because the dunes were so high. Then, all of a sudden, once I got off the beach, I ended up being in Morocco!
I don’t know why, but in my dream I was freaking out because I didn’t have proper Moroccan clothing and I felt like everyone was staring at me as if I were a freak. My best friend from childhood, Eliza, suddenly appeared, and I asked her if she could help me get some clothes. She totally refused, then walked off and started hanging out with my freshman year roommate from college, who was also coincidentally in Morocco. They totally ditched me!
Then I threw a tantrum and started breaking everything in my hotel room (I was magically back in my hotel room at this time). I called my boyfriend to come hang out with me, but he said he was hanging out with Eliza and my freshman year roommate without me.
Then this woman from Dartmouth, my alma mater, shows up and asks me if I wanted to work at the cafeteria, and that if I did, I would feel better about the fact that my friends were ditching me. She also said that the school cafeteria had started serving alcoholic beverages, and that a glass of wine was $6. I noticed that she had green skin and blue hair. Her blue hair was in a Louise Brooks bob.
Right before I started working at the cafeteria, I woke up.
My boyfriend's dream
So last night, my boyfriend had a weird dream too. He dreamt that he was at a steampunk beach where there was a bar. He had the luxury of staying at a bombshelter on the shore because the waves were so high that night. It was a black box similar to a safe, and when the waves hit, they killed everyone except him and a few people inside the box. He says “it was like being on a houseboat except on the shore.”
Then, after everything had cleared, he and the people from the box went out and used the dead bodies to set up scenes of the Jacques Tati movie “Playtime”. (Editor’s note: ew, creepy and weird).
After that, he realized that he left his cellphone in the box. When he went back to get it, someone else was renting out the box. The black box was a safe haven cabin thing that you could rent out to protect yourself from the waves. It was kind of like a new holiday retreat, but instead of staying on a beachfront hotel, you stayed at an armored beachfront box.
A dream dictionary. Not scientific at all. Totally new age. But isn’t that the fun of dream interpretation?
THE pivotal psychoanalytic work.
