I had to do it. I am way too obsessed with nachos not to write this guide. My friends and I have made it one of our personal goals to try all the best nachos in Boston (lofty goals we have, I know) and in the process, we've become experts on the nachos in the city. Of course, we also like to make our own from time to time. So, whether you're looking for where to get the tasties nachos in Boston or you just want to hang out and make your own nachos masterpiece, this guide will help you with all your nacho needs.
Best Nachos in Boston:
Coolidge Corner Clubhouse
Ahhh, Coolidge Corner Clubhouse nachos. They’ve been a staple of me and my friends’ lives since moving to Brookline 3 years ago. The 1/2 order is massive and it’s doubtful you’ll be able to finish them.
However, a couple years ago a challenge was made. Some guys in my apartment made a bet with us that we couldn’t eat a full order. Clearly, they didn’t know who they were dealing with. So, 5 of us got together, went down to the CCC, and ordered a full order of nachos. “Oh, you probably want the 1/2 order” the waitress told us. Um, no, we wanted the whole thing.
There were multiple times the waitress tried to clear our plates before we were done and we had to stop her. We weren’t finishing until all the nachos were gone. And we did it. We ate an entire full order of nachos at the Coolidge Corner Clubhouse. And my neighbors never even gave us our $10. But the pride and sense of accomplishment we felt was more than enough reward.
The only problem? You may not want to look at a plate of nachos for at least 6 months after finishing these.
Considering their name is the Cactus Club, you just kind of assume them to have good nachos, right? Well, luckily they don’t disappoint. The best thing is that you can sit outside right on Boylston while eating them…and while drinking one of “Boston’s best Margaritas.”
I always thought the regular nachos were amazing until my friend and I once got them with ground sirloin and we learned how much more amazing that was. The only negative is that Cactus Club skimps on the guacamole.
Cask 'n Flagon
I wasn’t aware the Cask ‘n Flagon had notable nachos until last week. Sara and I had a craving so stopped in figuring we’d try them. The waiter warned us they were huge and people were often amazed by the large serving. We told him we could handle it. Upon receiving our order, we looked at each other and said, “we’ve seen much bigger.” We finished them in 15 minutes and the waiter seemed shocked. Yes, they’re really good and they come with tons of guacamole and salsa, but no they’re not huge. You’ll be able to finish them all, no problem.
The perfect match for a plate of nachos. Sunset has about a billion different kinds of beer. OK, they have 112 beers on tap and 400 more by the bottle. Wow. The sangria is awesome as well.
Sunset Grill & Tap is the place to go for nachos. Oh, and beer too. While my friends and I absolutely love their nachos, we recently discovered their Mediterranean nachos, which are made with pita chips, hummus, feta cheese, eggplant, olives, and SO much more.
Just a warning: I can’t tell you how many times we’ve ordered the nachos as an appetizer and then by the time our meals came, we couldn’t eat a single bite of them. So, you might want to plan accordingly. Mediterranean or Mexican nachos, they’re seriously both amazing!
We love Sunset for their tri-colored tortilla chips!
Boston Beer Works
Boston Beer Works is the perfect place to watch “the game” while eating nachos. I’d say these nachos are better than those you’d find at an average sports bar, and they go perfectly with BBW’s blueberry beer (SO good). There are two BBW locations- one in the Fenway area and one right near the Garden…so you can be near all Boston games while eating your nachos.
Maybe the only good thing about the Pour House is their nachos. And their breakfasts. But seriously, Sara and I found ourselves stealing other people’s nachos one evening when we realized they were actually fabulous. They might…just might be enough to get me to go back to the Pour House in the evening hours. We’ll see though.
We freaked out a bit when we saw into the kitchen and thought they were putting the nachos in a microwave. But then we realized it was really an oven that just looked like a microwave. Phew.
These nachos are like whoa. The ultimate. And they got incredible ratings on the Food Network’s website. Add these to my “must make now” list.
Ray-Ray may be annoying, but she makes some amazing-looking nachos.
The salsa matters
Everyone has their own favorite salsa, but in my opinion, Paul Newman’s is the absolute best of the best. And it has to be “hot” too because really, the hot isn’t even that hot. Nachos made at home are just not the same without Paul!
Mexican cheese
The best cheese for nachos is of the mexican variety because, well, that just makes sense. I love Kraft, but Sargento and other brands work well too. Find your fave!
The chips of course
Tostitos Gold are extremely decadent and sturdy, making them an ideal nacho chip. But they’ll probably make you a lot more full than the average chip.
Obviously if you’re eating nachos, you’re not really pretending to be healthy. Like a multigrain chip is really going to cancel out the zillions of calories of cheesiness you’re consuming, right? But seriously, I eat Tostitos multigrain chips simply because I think they’re delicious. And if they want to give me a few health benefits too (whatever those may be) then sure, I’m all about that.
Don't forget the guacamole
Sure, you can have nachos without guacamole, but honestly, guacamole has the potential to make nachos SO much better. Make sure the avocados you buy are ripe enough, but not too soft. And add lots of tomatoes, onion, and lime juice! Maybe a few jalapenos too.
You really can’t make this stuff up. But it happened. And right here in the Boston area, too. An actual “nacho fight.” Allegedly, some girls at Revere High had a serious fight over nachos in the lunchroom; a fight that ended in handcuffs.
Who fights over nachos? Wait. I’m actually kind of surprised my friends and I haven’t yet. Hmmm.
Awwww, so sad! But let’s not start any fights over the nachos!
I agree. It’s more fun to go out and eat nachos made just for you. So follow this map to get way more than your fill of nachos. Wait, is there such a thing?
Pizza and nachos don’t really go too well together, but both involve lots of cheese and tomatoes so I can handle it. Find the best pizza places in the Boston-area.
Because what do you crave after a big meal of nachos? A big dessert of ice cream, of course! Here’s where to go to find the best of the best ice cream in Boston.
