8) Work = Fun

Widgetd_3456290214480

Once you join GiveForward, you become part of the family. Going to work, doesn’t feel like work. It feels more like getting to hang out with your best friends and make cool stuff 5 days a week.

We’re an extremely tight-knit group that feels like more of a family than an office.

Here’s an email one of our team members sent us in Jan 2012 that describes a little bit what it is like to work here:

“Dear Friends/GiveForward Co-Founders,
Though I’m not typically one to get reflective at year’s end/beginning, I just wanted to send a quick message to express my gratitude.

When 2011 began, I felt stuck in Indy working for my brother’s company and still seeking meaningful employment. I can’t tell you how different I feel right now working for GiveForward; I’m passionate about the work that we do and thankful for the daily rewards, challenges, and adventures my job involves.

It seems like such a rarity to hear of someone who truly loves his/her job and likes coming to work every day. I’m happy to say I’m one of these lucky people.

(NOT TO MENTION THE INCREDIBLY-GENEROUS AND UNEXPECTED YEAR-END BONUS)!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!"

7) Joining GiveForward Means Creating Unexpected Joy for People

Our internal mantra at GiveForward is “CREATE UNEXPECTED JOY.” Everyday we get to hear stories from users who tell us that their GiveForward page has been a bright spot in their lives during an otherwise very dark period. It’s hard to have a bad day at work when you get to hear stories like the following:

Dear Angels,

That is certainly what you are! As this medical fundraiser comes to a close, I want to express my gratitude for your love, support and generosity. I am filled with hope for this New Year and believe it will be a life changing one for me. I look forward to returning home with a new heart and new lungs that will allow me to breathe deeply and peacefully, as well as play harder than I ever have!

Your financial contributions have lifted a heavy burden. Your kind messages of love and encouragement will not be left in cyberspace but have been printed and included in a book of hope that will bring strength and solace over and over as I proceed on this journey. Even though this fundraiser is over now over, I would be so grateful for your continued prayers! I hope 2012 will bring a miracle.

When I think back on 2011, I will forever remember it as the year I was humbled and overwhelmed by the innate goodness of people. My heart has been changed forever as I have experienced this so literally and I will strive for the rest of my life to pay your goodness, generosity and sincerity forward!

Much love and many blessings,

Sharlie

6) We're Different than Most Companies

Widgetd_3456292831120

This is an actual slide we used when we went to pitch Lightbank a few years back. The dude in the speedo – that’s Brad Keywell, the co-founder of Groupon and the head of Lightbank. He was the guy we were pitching at the meeting. Suffice it to say, we did NOT get money from them (but he did keep this picture for his office) So, what’s the point? Well, we do things differently here. We’re a little bit weird and weirdness is accepted, tolerated and often encouraged in the workplace. All we ask of our team is that they always be authentic.

5) We're Blowing up!

GiveForward is so cool that people are graffitiing it all around the world. This picture was taken on Michigan Ave last year. How many other companies do you know that inspire socially conscious vandalism?

4) BURRITOS!!!!

Widgetd_3456295395740

Our # 1 priority at GiveForward is Creating Unexpected Joy. Our # 2 priority is winning the card drop for free lunch at Chipotle. We rule at it. Seriously, we won like 7 times in 2011. The secret is our quadruple-sized-stapled-together-megatron-style business cards.

3) Did I mention, we're like a family?

This is a team photo from our annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Pub Crawl. The dude in the back with the toothy grin – he’s one of our investors. Investors are part of the family too…

2) Did I mention work is fun?

This year, holiday bonuses were stuffed into balloons. Only way to get the cash was to pop the balloons with your butt. Mix this with a little alcohol and you get the best holiday bonus party ever!

1) You get to help make the world a better place

This is a comment on a recent fundraiser for Sarah Burke, a skier and role model who passed away after a skiing accident. The comment was written by the father of a six-year-old girl who donated all of her birthday money from the previous 6 years to support Sarah’s fund.

Bonus Reason: We Want AWESOME People Like You On Our Team
