If you had wanted to take me to Watertown, MA, 2 years ago, I would have said, "Ew, what does Watertown have to offer?" Well, a lot actually. After doing a ton of exploring, Watertown is now one of my favorite places to hang out in. The city has a plethora of amazing Middle Eastern food, great little shops and grocery stores, essential shopping spots, and tons more. Once you visit Watertown once, I can almost guarantee you'll be back!

Fordee's Grill

555 Mount Auburn St, Watertown, MA 02472

Fordee’s won the award for “Best Sandwich Shop in Watertown” and it’s easy to see why. Have a craving for falafel? You NEED to go to Fordee’s. Their falafel wrap is absolutely amazing and their falafel platter is filled with falafel (duh), hummus, tabouli, lettuce and tomato, and more.

While you’re waiting for your food, you can sample the pita chips at the counter and chat with the super friendly staff.

Fordee’s also has lots of pretty pink turnip pickles. They make any meal more fun!

Massis Bakery

569 Mount Auburn St, Watertown, MA 02472

I’m a big fan of Massis Bakery for many reasons. I especially love their spicy hummus because it’s perfectly flavorful and spicy. But I could also eat a couple pounds of their grape leaves.

Massis also makes amazing almond date cookies, which are baked with no sugar, eggs, or butter. And there’s so much at Massis I still need to try!

I love hummus, but spicy hummus is the best. Try it from Massis. And buy some pita chips too.

Stuffed Grape Leaves

You can get stuffed grape leaves (with meat or vegetarian) at lots of shops in Watertown, but I love the ones from Massis!

Yogurt Soda

One word of warning. DO NOT get the yogurt soda from Massis. It may look all interesting and stuff, but remember, curiosity killed the cat. It tastes like curdled yogurt, chunky and everything. Just don’t get it.

Sevan Bakery

599 Mount Auburn St, Watertown, MA 02472

Sevan’s Bakery is another Middle Eastern shop with tons of delicious prepared foods and packaged foods. The call themselves “the candy store for grownups” and I think that’s pretty accurate. Sevan’s has a huge nut bar, olive bar, cheeses, and lots of wines.

They also offer catering services! Did someone say party?

Go nuts in Watertown! Sorry, that was cheesy.

You might have to go back a few times, but whatever you do, make sure you hit up all these Watertown spots! There’s no better place in the Boston-area to get authentic Middle Eastern food. Yum to that.

Nuts at Fastachi

Yum. How will you ever decide?

Fastachi

598 Mount Auburn St, Watertown, MA 02472

Like nuts? You’ll love Fastachi. They have a huge selection of all kinds of gourmet nuts, including my favorite, cinnamon cashews. I’m also in love with the hot and sour wasabi mix. They also have lots of butters, like almond butter and cashew butter. And gourmet chocolates.

Wait. I don’t even care if you like nuts. Dip a nut in enough chocolate and I guarantee you’ll be gobbling them up!

Russo A & Sons Inc

560 Pleasant St, Watertown, MA 02472

Russo’s is possibly one of my favorite places in the world. It’s a big market, mostly filled with fresh produce. At really, really good prices! I usually go in, stock up in a major way, and never leave having spent more than $20. Any type of fruit or vegetable you can think of, Russo’s most likely has it.

They also have tons of specialty products like homemade pasta, breads and pastries (a whole delicious bakery, in fact), and a huge chese selection.

All this before you even step into the store!

Fresh produce everywhere! I tend to buy a little too much and have a difficult time eating it before it goes bad. Luckily, Russo’s produce tends to stay good for a long time.

So maybe you’re sick of all of Watertown’s Middle Eastern food (really? What is wrong with you?). If so, could it be you’re craving some sushi?? Luckily, Watertown offers a few fabulous sushi selections, including the fabulous New Ginza. The sister restaurant to the (old) Ginzas in Brookline and Boston’s Chinatown, New Ginza is just as good (if not better)!

The place tends to get packed so try to call ahead. And bring your appetite! The menu is huge.

After so much falafel and hummus, you might be craving sushi!

Other Spots for Sushi in Watertown:

Target

Who doesn’t love a trip to Target?

Obviously you already know about Target. And probably love it too because I’m not sure there are many people out there who don’t love Target. The thing about Watertown’s Target is that pretty much EVERYTHING is cheaper than anywhere in the entire city of Boston.

Watertown’s Target makes me never want to go to the CVS down the street from my apartment again.

Filene's Basement

485 Arsenal St Ste 92, Watertown, MA 02472

Another classic spot that everyone loves. Since the original Filene’s Basement is “temporarily closed for construction,” we need to get our fix elsewhere. Sure, there’s a brand-new one on Newbury and Boylston St. but it doesn’t quite have that old, crazy Filene’s Basement feel. The Watertown store does.

I love cupcakes, the color pink, writing, technology, blogging, trying to learn Japanese, and walking from one end of Boston to the other. I make it my goal to try one new thing in Boston every week, but sometimes I find things I love so much, I just can't tear myself away from them. Boston...
