Share on StumbleUpon Add to del.icio.us Share on Facebook

Pizza is an all around crowd please (Lactards and Gluteards aside). Some like it sweet, some like it spicy, some like it meaty and some like it under a mountain of veggies. Whatever your style, it's pretty much agreed that pizza ain't pizza without molten cheese. Whether you're into thin crust or deep dish, these local pie establishments will leave you in a food induced coma of pizza bliss. Here's a list of some stellar tried and true Pizzerias in and around SF.

Goat Hill Pizza

300 Connecticut St, San Francisco, CA 94107

High atop Potrero Hill is the ultimate San Francisco Pizza experience. In addition to being my personal favorite, Goat Hill Pizza has a devoted following of pie lovers. The secret is in the curst: it’s SOURDOUGH!! You heard me.

In addition to serving up uniquely San Francisco sourdough pizza, the salad selection offers a great way to balance out such an intense meal. That said, the best way to experience Goat Hill Pizza is on Monday nights. Monday night is Neighborhood Night, which means all you can eat pizza! So bring your appetite and some friends and get your Goat on.

Serrano's Pizza & Pasta

3274 21st St, San Francisco, CA 94110

The best part about Serrano’s is that you can order a SLICE with anything on it. And I’m not talking average slice size here, I’m talking mammoth slice. Their toppings list is impressive, boasting items like Ricotta cheese, corn, Linguica, clams and teriyaki chicken, you can pretty much design a slice of pizza as unique as your personality. This is a good thing for folks like me who have a hard time talking their friends into ordering an entire sausage and pineapple pizza…

Beer and pizza and movies, oh my!

The Question of Digestion

Let’s face it, people. Pizza isn’t the easiest meal to digest. All that cheese and dough is enough to make even the strongest of stomachs get all, ahem, sluggish. There are two ways to counteract this. First, order a salad with your pie. The lettuce and leafy greens aid in the digestion of this densely lacto-glutenous food stuff.

Secondly, it’s always a good idea to keep some good ol’ digestive enzymes on hand for heavy meals such as pizza. Just stop into any pharmacy or health food store and pick up some chewable, papaya based digestive enzyme tablets for a sweet little treat after your pizza bonanza.

Zachary's Deep Dish

Zachary's Chicago Pizza

5801 College Ave, Oakland, CA 94618

Ok, don’t be deterred by the East Bay location of this destination. For hardcore deep dish, Zachary’s is the place to go. Yes, you will have to travel to the East Bay for it. Yes, you will most likely have to wait long for a table (at peak times), but for die hard deep dish lovers, Zachary’s is THE place to be. True, toppings are limited compared to some pizza joints, but what Zachary’s lacks in variety, it makes up for in this swimming-pool sized deep dish. So suit up and jump in!

Cable Car Pizza

535 Valencia 16th St, San Francisco, CA 94102

The most startling thing about Cable Car Pizza is the cheese content. Remember as a kid when you would take a bite of pizza and the cheese would stretch the length of your arm between your mouth and the outstretched slice? That’s Cable Car. With toppings adrift and buried in this sea of cheese you’d think the crust would get lost in the madness. Nope, a robust crust keeps it all afloat! I recommend the traditional Supreme, with hearty sausage, pepperoni, peppers, onions and mushrooms.
