The Twonderful World of Twitter
"Who are they talking to?" "No one...and everyone!" Twitter has blown up in the last few months. Many people who said they'd never join are breaking down and creating their own Twittersphere. I love that even though Twitter has been around for at least a year, people are just now starting to add "twi" to everything, making it Twitter related. If you haven't created your own twictionary, I've shared a few examples and useful tools below.
TweetGrid
TweetGrid allows you to monitor multipe twopics at once. You can search for up to 9 different topics, events, converstations, hashtags, phrases, people, groups, etc in real-time. It’s also available for your iPhone :)
Twittergrid is similar to Twitter Feed in the way that you can view twitter feeds. It’s different because unlike Twitter Search, the feed automatically updates so you don’t have to hit refresh. The best part is that you can arrange multiple searches into a grid-like pattern to help track different conversations.
It’s funny because it’s true. Must have a sense of humor and be able to admit that you’re addicted to Twitter in order to enjoy this video.
“A young man struggles against the pressure to Twitter his life away. From: “SuperNews!” An animated sketch comedy series airing on Current TV. Every Friday night at 10 PM ET/PT."
Keeping up with tweets can be very overwhelming depending on how many people you’re following and how often they tweet. Tweetdeck makes it easier to keep track of everything that’s going on within your twittersphere by allowing you to break down Twitter feeds into more manageable bite-sized pieces of Twitter love.
Twintern
A Twintern is someone you hire to tweet for you because your life is so hectic that you can’t take 60 seconds to write an original tweet. So you get yourself a twintern who follows you around, watching you live your life and updates your twosse (tw + posse) accordingly.
This is also called “Ghost Twittering,” but it doesn’t sound as good as “twintern.” Many celebrities have twinterns so if you think Robert Pattinson is following you because you’re special, you’re wrong.
Sweet Tweets
It was only a matter of time before people started proposing via Twitter. Max Kiesler is one of the many. It seems a lot of women think this is a horrible idea, but it sends my little geek heart a twutter (tw + flutter).
Tweetups
Tweetups are meetups for people on Twitter. Of course there would be a cool name for such an event! It seems like a new tweetup pops up every week.
If you live in Chicago you’re in luck because it seems like there is always a tweetup scheduled. How do you keep track? Well, Chicago Tweetups is a great site to check out for starters. If you’re planning on organizing a tweetup I recommend letting Chicago Tweetups know. I heard a rumor that their events are published in The Printed Blog…
You have tweeple right? Well twtvite is another site to help get your tweeple to your tweetup.
Twellow
Twellow is the Yellow Pages of the Twittersphere. You can create a mini profile for yourself so others can search for you. I’ve only been using it for about a week, but I haven’t experienced any problems.
Twibs
Twibs is an index of businesses on twitter. You can search and browse businesses on twitter, both by alphabetical and tags for businesses using twitter.
Twar
A Twar or a Tweet-off is kind of like a dance off, but with tweets. Leave the fancy footwork at home. Make sure your fingers are ready to do some serious tweeting. No one wants to be a twoser (tw + loser).
A handy guide to Twitter, the hot new messaging service everyone is using! Previously the domain of the uber-geek, Twitter has been growing into a legitimate communication tool and this guide will introduce you to the new ultimate time waster.
