This is actually four peaks ... three on one side, and Mt. Davidson on the other. You can see as far east as Mt. Diablo, and out to the ocean. There are spectacular views of the Golden Gate, Sunset, and all of the East Side, From Inner Sunset down to Daly City. This has been my favorite haunt of late.

Mt. Tamalpias, the highest point in Marin County, as seen from Mt. Davis.

A not too imposing view of Mt. Davidson, one half was owned by Sutro, who over-planted it with trees to harvest as Lumber. Leland Stanford, who owned the “BALD” half, wanted to preserve it in its natural state.

Sutro Tower Inc

1 La Avanzada Street, San Francisco, CA 94131

Built in 1971, this landmark is actually as omnipresent in the city as the cable cars. It can be seen from just about everywhere, and is a dramatic highlight to the Noe Valley/Mission Skyline at night. At almost 1000’ tall, it looms over the skyline when seen from Berkeley, and makes an unique accent to the bridges. It was built by Sf’s big broadcasting companies- KRON4, KGO, KTVU, and some other one. Tourist buses make regular stops through the day. I prefer getting there on foot.

The 48

My Favorite line on MUNI, this bus is a wild ride: strretching all the way from Ocean Beach, It climps up over twin peaks from West Portal, Plummets down throuh My hood, and cruises throught eh Mission to Caltrain. Incredible views from twin peaks, and it’s almost a roller coaster. Those Drivers are the BEST!!!

Miraloma Club

749 Portola Dr, San Francisco, CA 94127

Truly on Top of SF, this is the place to have a sidecar or a Prohibition and truly be on top of the town. Its a great stop off between Twin Peaks and Mt. Davidson

LOST

I sat on top the slate rocks that peak up from the summit of Twin Peaks. The Sun was ten minutes behind me, and 200 feet down. Despite my glasses, My eyes winced against the stinging cold, and clouds whipped my cheeks and hands. I had to lean forward against the wind blowing inland,  and down over the prone city. I could not see to the edge of the cliffs, and I grew numb… numb to the steps ascending the slope, numb to the unseen city behind me, numb to the shadow of Sutro, invisible in the fog only a few hundred yards away. There was no city. there was no ocean. there were no seagulls, or even an albatross to shine through the fog that devoured me…I could hear no voice of the traffic or  whisper of sparrows. After only five minutes, I was shrouded by the absolute solitude of a ship lost at sea.

Just started watching the old series Twin Peaks this weekend and I was pretty weirded out to see a guide of the same title, even though it’s not related. No log ladies and red-suited dancing midgets here… I hope.
