The Best TV Show Opening Credits

I dig the song and the odd assortment of images. The show may be a little cheesy but the credits rock!

"Big Love"

I think these opening credits are REALLY bizarre (what’s with the ice skating?!) but I love them just the same.

"The Office" (UK version)

Wonderfully cheesy.

"Dexter"

Somehow this manages to be creepy and sexy at the same time…I feel so confused.

"Six Feet Under"

This opener has a really great score— and I love the way the title appears at the end.

"Entourage"

I just love the way they put the cast’s names “in lights.” Wait, is that supposed to be a metaphor or something?

"Ugly Betty"

I tried to get into “Ugly Betty” but I had some trouble— however, I do love the credits.

"Mystery!"

Ok so this is uber nerdy but I LOVED the opening credits for Mystery! on PBS (they’ve since modified them and they’re not as good)— how can you not love an Edward Gorey cartoon??

"Mad Men"

Great music, great animation, GREAT show!

"The Wire" Season 2

The Wire openings are total productions in and of themselves – so well done! Each season has its own opening montage and as the season progresses, the opening actually clues you in to what’s happening and can give you clues about what’s going to happen in upcoming episodes.

Totally groundbreaking. Oh, and this season features Tom Waits’ original version of the song that’s used for every season but sung by a different person in a different arrangement . . . whew. Intricate, no?

The NEW Simpsons Credits

The show jumped the shark back in ‘99; but they’ve done a heck of a job keeping the opening sharp!

"House"

I’m a big “House” fan and a big Massive Attack fan, so I really can’t not like this.

"The Sopranos"

I never really got into this show like most people did, but I do love the opening credits— great song.

"Weeds"

Pretty genius— plus Elvis Costello provides the soundtrack!

"Chuck"

I couldn’t really get into “Chuck,” but the credits aren’t too shabby— like a cutesy version of a James Bond movie.
