Thanksgiving, the day we honor those who helped get this country rollin'. We celebrate, therefore we eat... A LOT!! It is a day where we can say, "Screw it! I'm eating my entire plate of food, drinking 5 bottles of wine, plus an entire pumpkin pie!" Let's celebrate this year with gluttony! What are YOU cookin' this year?

Try Tofurky

Luckily, vegetarians don’t just have to eat mashed potatoes and rolls for Thanksgiving! This stuff looks pretty gorss, but its really not that bad! You may be the only one to eat it, but at least you’ll have food left over for days!

Use Your Family's Homemade Recipes

My mother made me an entire book of passed down family recipes. I don’t cook much, but every Thanksgiving I know my grandmother and great grandmother are looking down on me. Somehow I manage to scrape together the recipes they left to me. But boy It is worth all the labor! Southern style COOKIN’!

Homemade Mashed Potatoes: Southern Style- Original Recipe From My Mother

  • Peel # of potatoes according to how many people you are serving. Always make one more than the amount of people eating (Ex: 5 people, peel 6).
  • 1 Stick of butter
  • Milk to desired consistency
  • Boil peeled potatoes and cut potatoes. Boil until tender
  • Drain any small bit of water
  • Chop butter up on bottom of mixing bowl and add poatoes
  • Mix until smooth and creamy
This is the only family recipe I can let out of the box… sorry.

Stuffing a.k.a Dressing

Now I know everyone and their mom calls it Stuffing, but down in the south we call it Dressin’. Yes, this is absolutely mandatory that you have this at Thanksgiving. You know the Pilgrims did!

Pumpkin Date Bread

I make this bread every year, and every year it’s a hit. I jumped the gun a bit this year and decided I just couldn’t wait till Thanksgiving to open a can of pumpkin, so I made a batch of the bread this past weekend, and as you can see most of it is already gone! It’s ridiculously addicting.

Your Traditional Standard Turkey

Buy it, put stuff on it, bake it all day, cut off it’s limbs, and dig in! If you don’t have a turkey, it’s not Turkey Day, okay! That’s just all there is to it. Then you can enjoy a nice nap.

Cranberry Sauce

Some people make fancy cranberry casseroles, or a cranberry relish of some sort. Well, in my family, we just opened up the can of cranberry sauce and slapped it in a bowl. mmmm DIG IN!

Squash Caserole

My mother makes every casserole on this planet for Thanksgiving. There isn’t one that she has missed. My favorite, though, is the squash caserole. It is made with squash, of course, lots of cheese, breading, and butter! What would any casserole be without tons of butter?

How About Turducken?

Widget_cigyge2ytdfla6ffapmnp8

Turducken was first introduced to Western Civilization during the early days of the French Revolution. It’s a chicken stuffed inside of a duck stuffed inside of a turkey. Who brought it back into popularity? None other than football commentator and hyperbole enthusiast, John Madden. How about a slab of Turducken while watching the annual depantsing of The Detroit Lions on national TV?

Pumpkin Date Bread Recipe

2 c. pumpkin
3 tsp soda
1.5 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
3 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 c. oil
1/3 c. water
1.5 c. chopped dates

Mix everything together and place into greased loaf pans or muffin tins and bake at 350. The loaf usually takes a little over an hour to cook. I think muffins take about half as long, but I’m not totally sure, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on ’em!

Great idea for a guide! ( I LOVE Thanksgiving food), but does anyone else find that turkey-in-a-bikini image a tad disturbing?
