Town without Pity: A tour of heartbreak

It all started here! Wendy was my first love. We were 15 years old and the world was ours. Two weeks into our passionate affair I confessed my devotion to her. She confessed that she liked a 20 year old drop-out named Grant.

I took Hope out for sushi on the night of our Junior Prom. She looked lovely but seemed a bit distracted. Later that night, I found out that she was also dating my friend Eric.

Back in the 1980s this restaurant was an all night coffee shop called Mary and Lou’s. It was here one night that Stacy told me she was moving to Germany and did not want to do “the long-distance thing”.

We both lived at home with our parents so we got a room at the Motel 6. That night, I gave Rianne my heart and my virginity. She didn’t really want either. She was just in it for the wine coolers.

I was crazy about Michelle. She was pretty, an actress, and had a great smile. Right after we saw Clerks she told me it wasn’t working for her. Ouch.

I bought tickets for me and Amy to see Soul Coughing when they came to the Ogden. I waited out front but she never showed. She didn’t return my calls that night. Or ever again.

A few glasses of wine, a sampling of artisan cheeses, and a long speech about how we have grown apart. And I got stuck with the check. Thanks, Audrey.

It was where we met. It was where we hung out. It was where we broke up. Is it just me Lara, our has the coffee here gotten bitter?

Fondue was never really my thing. It takes three hours to get through a meal and you have to cook your dinner one bite at a time. Since Jamie dumped me I haven’t had to eat it once.

It was a special night. Dinner, drinks, dancing, and a night in a downtown hotel. As it turned out, it was our last night. Caio, Baby.

Emily and I ate here all the time. It was sort of “our place”. Thankfully, since the divorce, it’s now “my place”.
