Top 5 Girls' Night Out (or In) Ideas
List of the top 5 ways to get together with your girlfriends and do something fun and original. The list is nationally based. I've tried some of these, and I aspire to try others. Keep checking back in too, as I'll keep hunting and come up with the top 10 girls' night out (or in) ideas!
Take a Cooking Class at a Local Cooking School
Get your best girlfriends together and spend the evening learning a new recipe!
#1 Take a Cooking Class
Get a group of your best girlfriends together and take a cooking class. Classes come in all different formats, but the best allow you to mix and mingle and try your hand at a number of different dishes. My girlfriends and I coordinate once or twice a quarter and take classes at Generous Servings (www.generousservings.com) in the Denver area. We’ve tried Southern Italian, Healthy Vietnamese, Savory Soups and Hearty Breads. For a list of cooking schools in your area, check out all culinary schools;
#2 Host a Wine & Cheese Pairing Party
You can do this in your own home by yourself, coordinate with a local wine bar, or even have a sommelier visit for an evening to walk you and your friends through wine appreciation; wine, cheese and spread pairings; and the history and culture behind wine and cheese making. It’s very fun, and will make you feel very sophisticated, I promise! If you want to host a wine and cheese on your own, check out the Top 100 Wine Blogs at alawine blog rankings, and pick up a copy of The Cheese Primer by Steven Jenkins. When I host these parties, I pair the wines and the cheese based on recommendations that I find online, at websites including gourmetsleuth and then make little placecards to describe the wine and the cheese. I also cut up fresh fruit and buy a few treats like lavendar honey and fig spread. I’ve also taken a wine appreciation class at Tria’s Fermentation School in Philadelphia, PA (www.triacafe.com;

#3 Host A Custom-Design Shoe Party
What could be more fun than a night in with your best friends designing your own shoes? Atelier Shoes (www.ateliershoes.com), a custom design shoe company, will bring its online design studio to your house and spend the evening helping you and your friends create the perfect pair of shoes to meet each of your guests’ own styles. Atelier Shoes offers ten basic models, which include peeptoe pumps, strappy sandals and mary janes. After your guests have selected their shoe style and size, they can then choose from 72 different materials, including leathers, suedes, patents, metallics, faux furs and animal prints, for the exterior upper, interior upper, footbed, heel and sole of their shoes. Once they’ve made their material selections, they can then choose among a natural wood wedge heel, a wrapped wedge heel or a stiletto heel. And then, finally, they can chose from various adornment options, including rhinestones, belts and buckles to truly create a shoe of their own for a price far below most designer labels. The shoes are then hand made and delivered for a girls’ night out four to eight weeks later.

#4 Take a Strip Tease Class
No, I am not kidding, and yes, I have actually tried this. It was so much fun! To do this, you’re going to have to let go of some of your reservations and just tell yourself that you’re beautiful, sexy, smart and fun and, of course, that you can shimmy, shake and dance like the best of them. Strip tease classes are available almost everywhere, including local gyms and sports clubs as an aerobic activity!
#5 Arrange for a Private Spa Party
This is a great way to spend an evening with the girls. I’ve done this where we all just book spa appointments and then head out for cocktails, but most recently we booked a private class at a local shop in Denver where the esthetician showed us how to use the products that were available for use in their store. The price was very reasonable, and they served wine and cheese on location. Check out www.moondancebotanicals.com in Denver, or contact a local spa in your area for information on private spa parties.
