Another good tip: If movers are doing the moving for you, get them coffee and donuts for breakfast and pizza and soda for lunch. They’ll definitely appreciate it, and they might just take care of your stuff a little better.

I’m moving right now too! I hate it :( Although my mom is one of those moms that throws EVERYTHING out without asking. Things I actually would care about. I tend to keep her out of my moving situations unless I want to get rid of a ton of stuff!

I’m moving AGAIN! This time from Chicago to LA – it’s a big one! I think I could use your mom to help me get rid of my stuff :) Good luck with your move! Hope it goes smoothly.

Whew, that IS a big move! This move won’t be far for me, but I’ll be moving into Downtown Seattle, which is a big change from where I’m at now! It will be my third move this year. Good luck with your move as well :D

I just visited Seattle not too long ago. I stayed by the convention center so I have no idea what area that was in. Wish I had more time to explore, but it was a beautiful city from what I saw.

Haha. The first one is the best. Moms love to save treasure (read junk)…

Movers are worth EVERY penny.

The biggest tip I have: is to really consider if you still need that HUGE entertainment center you’ve had for ten years……especially if you have switched to flat screen TV, its not necessary to take up a whole wall with a huge wooden Stereo/tv/storage unit. If you seriously can’t bare to part with it, the friends who help you move it, deserve more than just one beer.

Great tips!! I’ll have to be sure to remember them when it’s my turn. I think I’ll have a special box just for the remote, can opener, toilet paper, deodorant, and hey, of course the alcohol. Good luck with your move!

If you can afford one, always use a moving company when you are doing a full house. Last time I moved…when I bought my house I swore I’d never do it without one again. I am one of those sad people that had the whole house unpacked in a day though.

Oooh the alcohol is definitely good to keep handy. When Matt and I moved (at 10 in the morning mind you), his dad showed up with a ton of beer that was definitely consumed by the movers (aka our friends). As for my tip, don’t freak out. Even if stuff goes wrong freaking out will only make it worse, so just don’t do it. haha.

I hate moving. I’ve moved so much I should probaly do it for a living, lol. The worst part is we usually do it ALL in one day, as to save money on moving vans. I hate unpacking but I DO love the oppurtunity to have a fresh start and re-organize everything. It seems with every move I get better and better

The best thing is just to be calm. Too many little things happen during the day that will make you freak the hell out. And make sure you invest in saving tons of newspaper to wrap things in. Nothing broke when I moved!!

here are some of my crazy events since my first big move 3 weeks ago: 1) dining table and chairs we bought came in damaged. chairs are still sitting not put together because the correct hardware is STILL not in 2) 1 bookcase from ikea is damaged. going to replace it tonight. 3) major ants within the first three days. they were easy to get rid of 4) centipede in the sink. this happened wednesday. 5) car next to mine had a smashed in window one day 6) latch on door doesn’t work right. windows were replaced and door just pushed open [no one was home]. other than that…love the place!!!

When unpacking, do it one room at a time. That way, you’ll have at least one room to collapse into at the end of the day (instead of 3 half finished rooms to look at and cry)

I have no clue how to use this or anything. Is it another forum where I have to hide from psycho ex-boyfriend? But I am here and I love your tips. I was wondering if #11 was to choose the coldest fall weekend possible to move? Aren’t you expecting snow on Sunday? Hugs!
