How a space is decorated makes a world of difference. Especially if you are looking for a creative environment and looking for ways to do it cheaply. Who says you have to spend a lot of money to doing so? All you have to do is go thrift store shopping to find the things you need.
It's All About The Space
From simple to eclectic. It’s your space, your home. Do with it what you want! I love a mixture of mod squad meets just plain odd finds.
Grab a picture of a space you want to work with and set a budget. This can be a here and there project. Pick up things along the way. Objects and a creative mind is all you need to get started!
You can find just about ANY treasure here! All proceeds go towards helping the gay and lesbian community in Chicago.

Chairs Are Important
So many chairs go neglected everyday. Back in the Art Deco years, these chairs were considered a luxury. Now days designers are bringing them back, but charging a butt load for them!
No need to spend the big bucks! Just go into the alley in your neighborhood or a thrift store. I’m sure there will be an awesome chair calling out your name. I’ve had a few say mine!
Vintage Radios
So many cool vintage radios to choose from! I found a fun radio from the 70’s that is still in great condition and adds a bit of character to my apartment.
It’s nice to have a radio around. No one listens to them at home anymore! I gotta say, NPR is by far my favorite station on my vintage prize.
Creative Coffee
Enjoy coffee as a daily routine? Find some fun coffee mugs! People discard their mugs as if they’re toilet paper! Geez, I have found some award winning mugs with crazy decorations and patterns.
Some mug finds are worth displaying around the kitchen!
Mostly funky, cool vintage clothes you’ll find here. You have to look cute to match your vintage apartment though, eh?

Little Nick-Nacks
Find little nick-nacks to mix in on a book shelf among pictures, books, and other odds and ends. This helps to create a unique personality to your space.
Just be sure to not let it get too cluttered. Again, this is not your grandma’s house!
More Odd Sit Arounds
Odd, quarky objects will make nice conversation pieces. Children as candles? Yes, it seems this is a true valuable find for your apartment.
Why? Just because! Thrift stores have large amounts of these just waiting for you to buy them!

Book Shelves Do Make A Difference
Cram your crap into a cool book shelf and litter the walls with cool vintage paintings. I’m tellin’ ya, you can’t go wrong!
Well, that is of course if you throw up a picture of Brittany Spears and some NASCAR posters.
Funky Lamp Fixtures
Add some character to your apartment by lighting your place with a lamp that wouldn’t normally be a lamp! It’s thrilling, quarky, and might express something about YOUR character.
Create An Inviting Vintage Space
Here are some suggestions on what to look for when creating a fun vintage space…
- Do not spend a lot of money. Anything over $50 bucks is going too far! If you find a treasure that may be worth it, well try to talk them down, but by all means, GRAB IT!
- Please don’t turn into grandma! Anything you think your grandma would use to decorate her house with: such as flower patterns, doilies, etc… DO NOT USE!
- Ask your friends, they may have items they call “junk” to hand over to you as a new treasure!
- Refer to this guide if you get lost along the way.
You just never know what you might find here. Check in every week. New stuff pops in all the time! I mean old stuff, old!

Odd Old Art
OK, grandma may have this one stashed away somewhere. Yet finding odd art is definitely key to adding a bit of flava to each room.
Plus, each piece has a story behind it. Maybe the story is where your grandma found this strange object, or maybe there is a story about how you found it! I guarantee that it won’t cost more than $1.00!
Board Game Wall Art
Here’s a fun idea… Board game wall art!
Basically all thrift stores have board games that have probably sat there long enough to collect decades of dust. Instead, let them collect dust on your walls!
I wouldn’t recommend playing them on the walls. Although, that would be interesting to play against gravity!
Valuable Art to Fill Space
Sometimes art may be found that you could take to The Antique Road Show! OR you may just want to keep it for yourself.
Hang different shaped art pieces together on one wall to create a collage masterpiece!
Yep, if they don’t want it… it’s yours!

Vintage Telephones
Have a landline? Create the ultimate vintage home and travel back in time while calling your mother! Could be fun, right? Just adds a bit more flava to your wall.
In With Old and Mix With The New
Since we do live in the modern age, IKEA. is another great place for cheap furniture. Mix it with your vintage finds and create an eclectic mix of old world meets new!
